We haven’t heard the last ho, ho, ho from Tim Allen’s mouth. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the actor is on board to return as Scott Calvin, aka Santa, in a limited series based on The Santa Clause and its sequels. It will serve as a continuation of the movies with Allen’s character in the central role. The project reunites Allen with Last Man Standing creator Jack Burditt and executive producer Kevin Hench.
According to the reported synopsis, the Santa Clause series “will find Scott approaching his 65th birthday and realizing he can’t be Santa forever. He’s starting to lose a step in his Santa duties, and more importantly, he’s got a family who could benefit from a life in the normal world — especially his two kids who have grown up at the Pole. With a lot of elves, children, and family to please, Scott sets out to find a suitable replacement Santa while preparing his family for a new adventure in a life.”

Tim Allen Will Be Playing Santa for the Fourth Time
Disney
Tim Allen has become one of the most well-known Santa Claus actors after playing the part in three movies. He didn’t begin this journey as jolly old Saint Nick, as he was your everyday suburban dad Scott Calvin in The Santa Clause. When he inadvertently causes Santa to fall off the roof and seemingly perish, Scott becomes the new Santa Claus after putting on the red robe. He is initially reluctant to take on the new responsibilities that come with being Santa but accepts his role as the merry gift-giver by the end.
The original movie, released in 1994, was a tremendous success, having since become one of cinematic history’s most popular Christmas movies. Allen returned for the 2002 sequel The Santa Clause 2, and while it was hit with mixed reviews, it was still a big hitter at the box office. Allen reprised the role for what seemed to be the final time in 2006 with the third movie in the trilogy, The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause.
Reviews for the third film were the worst of all, and the box office returns were also not what they were before. It pretty much put the kibosh on any more movie being made, keeping The Santa Clause as a trilogy. Even so, there remains a certain level of appreciation from some fans for the sequel, and even more still love the earlier installments. We’ll have to see if the series is treated more like the first film or the third at the time of its release when it comes to the fan reception.
The Santa Clause series will reportedly start production in March. It’s not yet clear when the series will premiere on Disney+.
