HBO Max has ordered another season of The Sex Lives of College Girls. Variety reports that a third season is now in development following the official renewal, with the news coming ahead of the show’s final two episodes of its second season. The series getting its early renewal makes it nice for fans to watch the season finale knowing that whatever happens will be further expanded upon in season 3.
In a statement, HBO Max’s Executive VP of Original Comedy and Adult Animation, Suzanna Makkos, said: “Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble continue to brilliantly capture the college experience in the most entertaining and relatable way. This series is the perfect balance of comedy, sex, curiosity, and chaos, and we can’t wait to see what the next season brings.”

Kaling and Noble created the series and serve as executive producers alongside Howard Klein of 3 Arts Entertainment. Noble also serves as showrunner. The series stars Pauline Chalamet, Amrit Kaur, Reneé Rapp, and Alyah Chanelle Scott, while season 2 features Mekki Leeper, Christopher Meyer, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Lolo Spencer, Renika Williams, and Mitchell Slaggert.

What happens next remains to be seen, though Kindy said last month she was approaching the show one season at a time. That was before the renewal was official, and perhaps she didn’t want to spend too much time coming up with storylines that wouldn’t see the light of day. That may now change that the renewal news is official, as Kaling and Noble will likely soon get started on their work for season 3.
“I’m really taking it season by season,” Kaling told Collider, hopeful but unsure if the renewal was coming. “It would be amazing, if we could come back for another season. We love the show, and we love our crew, and the girls are so fun, so we would love to do it again. But I really don’t know, and that’s nice. We go into each season really open-minded about what’s gonna happen. That’s what I’ve done, on every show.”

The season 2 finale of The Sex Lives of College Girls will premiere on Dec. 15 on HBO Max. Season 3 does not yet have a premiere date.
