The super sibling rivalry begins in the official trailer for The Umbrella Academy Season 3. Released courtesy of the Netflix YouTube channel, the footage offers our first extended look at the return of the titular family of super-people (we won’t call them heroes) as they come face-to-face with a variant version of themselves after crashing into an alternate universe at the end of the second season. Based on Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá’s Dark Horse comic book series of the same name, the first series of The Umbrella Academy begins in 1989, with a highly unusual occurrence wherein forty-three infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven of these mysterious babies are adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves, a billionaire industrialist, who creates The Umbrella Academy and prepares his “children” to save the world.

Season 3 will pick up with the Hargreeves’ after putting a stop to 1963’s doomsday, with The Umbrella Academy returning home to the present. Or so they think. Convinced they prevented the initial apocalypse and fixed this godforsaken timeline once and for all, the celebration is quickly shut down when they realize things aren’t exactly how they left them. Enter the Sparrow Academy. Smart, stylish, and about as warm as a sea of icebergs, the Sparrows immediately clash with the Umbrellas in a violent face-off that turns out to be the least of everyone’s concerns. Will they find a way back to their pre-apocalyptic lives? Or is this new world about to reveal more than just a hiccup in the timeline?

Thrown once again into a world they shouldn’t be in, The Umbrella Academy will need to quickly face off against The Sparrow Academy, an alternate and seemingly much more organized version of themselves. Tackling time paradoxes, family squabbles, and a gang of “d—head” superheroes will not be an easy task for The Umbrella Academy. But they will need to come together and solve each problem in turn before they are erased from existence entirely.

The Umbrella Academy Season 3 is Due for Release Next Month

Starring Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, The Umbrella Academy will introduce a whole host of new characters, most notably of which are their rivals, The Sparrow Academy.

The Sparrow Academy are expected to be major players in season 3, with the team made up of Justin Cornwell as Marcus Hargreeves AKA Sparrow Number One, Britne Oldford as Fei Hargreeves AKA Sparrow Number Three, Jake Epstein as Alphonso Hargreeves AKA Sparrow Number Four, Genesis Rodriguez as Sloane Hargreeves AKA Sparrow Number Five, Cazzie David as Jayme Hargreeves AKA Sparrow Number Six, and a…psykronium cube named Christopher.

Approaching the drama with the same warped sense of humor that fans of The Umbrella Academy have come to expect, season 3 has too many siblings and not enough timeline, and promises to be another action-packed, funny, captivating outing for the superhero family.

Season three of The Umbrella Academy premieres June 22, only on Netflix.
