The Walking Dead: Dead City is Not Due for Release Until 2023

The Walking Dead franchise’s highly anticipated spinoff, The Walking Dead: Dead City, has generated a lot of hype ever since its announcement. Actors Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (who portray Maggie and Negan) have shared some bits of information about what to expect from the show. Although details are still sparse, what is known so far is that Walking Dead: Dead City will be set in the same post-apocalyptic world as its predecessor and the series will follow Negan and Maggie in New York City as they explore a world beyond the Walking Dead universe, but with the same themes of contention between life and death. Maggie still hates Negan for his past actions, according to Cohan, but they need to work together if they want to survive. Morgan also mentioned that viewers might see some of the old Negan in Dead City, as he had to rely on his old methods to survive in the gap between shows.

Walking Dead veterans like Cohan and Morgan are confirmed for the series as well as newcomers like Gaius Charles (Grey’s Anatomy) who will play Perlie Armstrong, a family man who is ruthless in his pursuit of justice and building a safe world for his family. Dead City has also added Zeljko Ivanek to the cast as a character solely known as The Croat. The show also features Trey Santiago-Hudson as Jano, Mahina Napoleon from NCIS: Hawaii as Ginny, Jonathan Higginbotham from The Blacklist as Tommaso, and Charlie Solis as a character only known as the Bartender.

The Walking Dead: Dead City has no set release date, however it is expected to air on AMC sometime in April 2023. There will be six episodes in the first season.
