With Aubrey Plaza serving as guest host, Saturday Night Live was not going to let the episode conclude without featuring a parody of The White Lotus. In the second season of the hit HBO series, Plaza was featured in an acclaimed performance, recently earning a Golden Globe nomination. On Saturday night, she poked some fun at the show with an SNL parody dubbed The Black Lotus, though she plays someone completely unlike her White Lotus character. You can view the sketch below, via SNL on YouTube.

In the sketch, Plaza appears as a bartender while other staff members of an exclusive resort are played by Kenan Thompson, Ego Nwodim, and Punkie Johnson. The staffers take an entirely different approach to dealing with the antics of the wealthy tourists, with the parody ad teasing that The Black Lotus features “all the decadence, all the intrigue, none of the foolishness.” The parody ad also describes the show as “eight wealthy tourists, one luxury hotel, and a staff who has no time for this nonsense.”

Among various seasons 1 and 2 references, the parody features plenty of Chloe Fineman doing a spot-on impression of Jennifer Coolidge’s Tanya McQuoid, who appears in both seasons of the actual TV series. The parody concludes with the announcement that The Black Lotus will premiere on both HBO and Starz, referring to the announcement that Starz will be putting more focus onto content catered to Black audiences moving forward.

It’s no surprise to see SNL tackling The White Lotus, given the popularity of the series. The show has been renewed for a third season which will again introduce a new cast at a different location. However, it’s not yet clear if Coolidge will return. For now, fans can stream the first two seasons on HBO Max.
