There will be a major change made to The Witcher after season 3 arrives on Netflix in 2023. As has been previously announced, Henry Cavill is set to leave The Witcher after his work on the third season, but that didn’t stop Netflix from canceling the show. Instead, The Witcher was renewed for season 4 without Cavill as Liam Hemsworth has been brought in to take over playing the role of Geralt of Rivia.

As Cavill had been so revered in the role, many fans have cried foul on the casting change. The backlash has now made its way to Michelle Yeoh, the star of the show’s spinoff series, The Witcher: Blood Origin. As her show is a prequel, it won’t feature Geralt, but Yeoh still has her thoughts on how the main series will be moving forward with Hemsworth as Geralt. While offering praise to Cavill, Yeoh is open to seeing how Hemsworth does with the role, suggesting that the actor deserves a fair shot to make it work. Speaking with E! News, Yeoh said:

In a separate interview for ET, Yeoh added:

“I think Henry did such an amazing job. Let’s see what Liam has to bring, right? That’s how it is.”

“Henry did such a fabulous job with it, and he made The Witcher come to life, and we love the series. I love the series because of Henry. But now, we’ll see. I think Liam will bring great things, too. There’s always something to look forward to.”

Will Fans Accept a New Geralt?

Michelle Yeoh is keeping an open mind about the future of The Witcher, and there are many fans of the show choosing to reserve judgment until the actor is seen in the role. Even so, there are many others who are so unhappy with the switch that they’re petitioning for Netflix to do whatever it takes to bring Cavill back. That petition, which you can find at Change.org, is sitting at close to 275,000 signatures as of this writing. But Cavill seems to have already moved on by turning his focus to Superman’s return in the DCU, and it seems very unlikely he’ll be coming back to The Witcher after making his exit.

The first two seasons of The Witcher are streaming on Netflix, while season 3 is set to arrive in 2023, with an exact date yet to be announced. As for Michelle Yeoh and The Witcher: Blood Origin, you can watch the spinoff when it premieres on Netflix on Dec. 25, 2022. For a sneak peek at that show, you can watch the official trailer below.
