The Witcher producer Tomasz Bagiński has now responded to the sudden departure of series star Henry Cavill, comparing the role of Geralt of Rivia to James Bond. Taking to social media, Bagiński teased the quality of the upcoming third season before declaring that, just like with Batman and Bond, a new actor can bring something fresh and exciting.
Cavill made the announcement that he would be leaving The Witcher over the weekend. “My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4,” he said via Instagram. Since then, several theories as to why he has decided to walk away from a show he has been so vocally passionate about have emerged.
“I realize yesterday’s announcement shocked at least as much as Elon’s takeover of Twitter, but the world survived not such surprises. The Witcher can make it. The third season is very strong. There are only a few years until the fourth. Bond and Batman discover something new and interesting with each change of appearance. We have the time. Geralt is in the same league.”

Liam Hemsworth Will Take Over the Role of Geralt in The Witcher Season 4

Much like James Bond, the role of Geralt of Rivia will now be recast, with The Hunger Games and Independence Day: Resurgence star Liam Hemsworth taking over from Henry Cavill as the monster-hunting hero. And, much like James Bond, no one will mention that the character now looks and sounds completely different.
Since the announcement, Hemsworth has made his own statement regarding the recasting. “As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia,” the actor said. “Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure. Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world.”
The official synopsis for The Witcher Season 3 teases what’s to come saying, “As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it,” the synopsis for the third season of The Witcher reads. “Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line — or risk losing each other forever.”
No doubt The Witcher Season 3 will be hugely popular thanks to it now being Henry Cavill’s swansong. We can only wait and see if that popularity continues when Hemsworth takes over. The Witcher Season 3 does not yet have a release date, but will once again debut on Netflix.
