Since The Witcher premiered on Netflix in 2019, it has amassed quite a large following. One of the most beloved characters of the show is none other than the witty and oddly charming bard known as Jaskier (Joey Batey). His songs about Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) valiantly killing monsters managed to turn the witcher into a hero in the eyes of many throughout the Continent. Jaskier’s rendition of songs like “Toss a Coin to Your Witcher” coupled with his impeccable comedic timing throughout the show more than warrant a spinoff series for the character.
The opportunity is ripe for Jaskier to take the reins in his own story. Before meeting Geralt, he managed to make a name for himself by singing a variety of songs throughout the Continent. It could reasonably be argued that Geralt owes his reputation to Jaskier. Such suggestions would indicate the bard had notoriety in his own rite before attaching himself to Geralt. A series centered around Jaskier would expand the world of The Witcher in ways viewers would surely love.

It Would Make for a More Well-Rounded Universe
Netflix
With The Witcher spinoffs like Blood Origin and Nightmare of the Wolf already on Netflix, adding a series about Jaskier and his adventures would only add to the universe overall and provide a more well-rounded telling of the Continent. Jaskier after all is a romantic of sorts given what he sings about, which could be explored deeper in his own series. Furthermore, detailing stories throughout the Continent via Jaskier would tap into how others see the monsters in the forests as well as the before and aftereffects of war because of Nilfgaard’s ruthlessness.
There is no shortage of storytelling opportunities within the universe of The Witcher. The Continent is vast with the humans, elves, monsters, etc. since the Conjunction of the Spheres, and Jaskier’s perspective on events would enhance what’s already been revealed about the world he and Geralt occupy. The finale of season two of The Witcher saw Dijkstra (Graham McTavish), advisor to King Vizimir of Redania (Ed Birch), demand that Jaskier be brought to him. Such requests indicate Jaskier may be involved with Dijkstra in ways that will ultimately lead to a betrayal of Geralt. Such connections imply Jaskier is a more complex character than viewers might initially believe, and as a result, a full spinoff series centered around the bard would mean more diverse content for the universe of The Witcher.
Jaskier’s Personality Alone Could Carry a Series
Throughout the first two seasons of The Witcher, Jaskier provided wit and comedic timing unparalleled to anyone else in the series. Much like Henry Cavill embodies the role of Geralt, Joey Batey embodies the role of Jaskier. He made a brief appearance in Blood Origin, and managed to be the best thing about the poorly-written prequel series despite only gracing the screen for about two minutes. In the short amount of time audiences saw him, he managed to leave viewers wanting more. Jaskier’s personality alone is scene-stealing, and a spinoff series of his own would make for good television.
Furthermore, since the beginning of The Witcher series, Jaskier mentions his numerous romantic relations quite often, but viewers have yet to see those storylines play out. Such escapades as well as his life before meeting Geralt would add to the canon of The Witcher in a different more original way given how captivating Jaskier manages to be whenever he’s on-screen.
It Could Help Viewers Forget About Blood Origin
Much to the disappointment of diehard fans of The Witcher, Blood Origin fell wildly short of expectations. It was a poorly written, exceptionally cringey origin story about the first witcher and the Conjunction of the Spheres. Since the prequel premiered, it has faced terrible reviews as well as backlash regarding the conflicts it created with its predecessor’s existing lore. Ultimately, the prequel revealed nothing viewers actually wanted to see and left audiences with more confused questions about the Continent and its history. While a Jaskier spinoff can’t undo the mess of Blood Origin completely, it could help audiences forget its existence and help to clarify certain plot holes or questions left behind by the lackluster prequel.
More Songs
One of the appeals of The Witcher includes the original songs of the show. A Jaskier spinoff would all but guarantee more songs about his misadventures and escapades. A lighter and more whimsical perspective via Jaskier’s storytelling through his songs, an underrated staple of The Witcher series, is something audiences would delight in seeing more. Now that season three of The Witcher is ramping up its storyline with Geralt, Ciri (Freya Allan), and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) as they plan to go into hiding, it’s unlikely viewers will have the pleasure of hearing Jaskier’s songs. Providing the bard with his own series would allow for the much-appreciated musical endeavors to be endless.
While there’s no indication that Jaskier will receive his own spinoff series anytime soon, season three of The Witcher is set to premiere sometime in the summer of 2023. In the meantime, watch the first two seasons of the series as well as Blood Origin and Nightmare of the Wolf now on Netflix.
