Among the best parts of growing up in the ’80s was getting up on a weekend, filling a giant bowl of breakfast cereal, and then plunking in front of the television to watch cartoons. On the weekdays, one could watch various cartoons that aired during those crucial hours every day after school, until just before supper. Even though we do have cartoons now, and there are many good ones for both children and adults, it’s difficult not to remember those glorious days of the 1980s, full of bright colors, loud noises, and silly jokes.
Today, the 1980s are making a comeback in a big manner, and with it comes a flood of nostalgia from nerds everywhere. There is something for everyone, from TV episodes and films to literature and music. Elements from the era of long hair and wider shoulder pads are tough to escape. However, we remain hopeful that our favorite cartoons from the ’80s will return to our screens, but in a larger format this time. So, let’s take a glance at some of the cartoons that have the perfect balance of engaging plots and small casts, that should get a chance on the big screen.

One wouldn’t be disappointed with superheroes wearing various tech suits, especially with the fame of the Iron Man from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Centurions’ crew is modest enough to include all the members in the film, without sacrificing quality.

6 Chip ’n Dale: Rescue Rangers (1989-1990)
Buena Vista Television
With the performance of the revamped DuckTales, it’s surprising that Disney has not yet revived some other series from their ’80s and ’90s Disney Daytime roster. Chip ’n Dale: Rescue Rangers, which aired for 65 episodes, was among the most successful Disney Daytime shows.
Chip and Dale, together with their companions Gadget Hackwrench, Zipper, and Monterey Jack, founded an investigation agency on the show. The squad embarked on a fantastic trip, full of adventure and humor in each chapter. The concept of a 90-minute film featuring singing raisins is fascinating, and would undoubtedly fascinate viewers. There is also a possibility that Chip ’n Dale: Rescue Rangers may be getting a sequel.
5 Snorks (1984-1989)
Snorks takes everyone’s beloved blue, pocket-sized woodland creatures, puts them underwater, and gives them a snorkel. It also paved the way for a plethora of sea-themed escapades, and considering the Smurfs’ relative success on the big screen, a current revamp of the cartoon could be a worthwhile attempt.
A contemporary Snorks film might provide an alternate channel for producers to address environmental issues, and weave them into this aquatic universe, giving the small sea creatures a new start and a chance to compete with their quasi-competitors.
4 Bravestarr (1987-1988)
Group W Productions
Marshall Bravestarr has been the sole law enforcer in the world of New Texas, and he employs his spirit abilities to summon the planet’s wildlife talents, including the Power of the Bear, Hearing of the Wolf, Sight of the Hawk, and Velocity of the Puma. The Carrion Gang, led by the criminal Tex Hex, is taking the planet’s rich Kerium minerals.
Westerns are a fading genre, but incorporating sci-fi aspects into the equation, as seen in Guardians of the Galaxy, might result in some really compelling stories. Native Americans are rarely featured in comic books or animated adaptations. It would be an excellent opportunity to provide Native Americans with a constructive big-screen feature.

3 Adventures Of The Galaxy Rangers (1986)
Gaylord Entertainment Company (Production)/ Tokyo Movie Shinsha (Animation)
The Galaxy Rangers patrol the stars, trying to prevent the Crown Empire from spreading its kingdom, using Slaver Lords; psychic manifestations of its commander, the Queen of the Crown, who was formed from mind-controlled slaves. Doc, Rangers Foxx, Niko, and Goose police space, battling a massive ensemble of outlaws from all around the galaxy.
As this drama is about interstellar travel rather than being trapped on a single planet, it needs its own movie. The ’80s cartoon has a team of law enforcement personnel, everyone with their own special abilities. Aside from that, “No Guts, No Glory” should be updated, because it is the best cartoon theme song ever composed.
2 The Legend Of Zelda (1989)
Viacom Enterprises
Undoubtedly among the most famous gaming series worldwide, if not the most prominent, is The Legend of Zelda. With 18 popular games spanning more than four decades, the show’s next obvious step was to handle both cartoon and live-action.
The Legend of Zelda television series premiered in 1989 and ran for only 13 episodes, but it is still remembered for its obnoxious catchphrases, poor graphics, and meaningless storylines. However, given the franchise’s continuous popularity and success, making an animated or live-action film would be a large undertaking. But, if handled well, it might be rather spectacular.
1 Spiral Zone (1987)
Orbis Communications
The wicked Overlord transformed half of the world’s inhabitants into brainless zombies that can only be controlled by him, when he activated several Zone Producers around the planet. Overlord, with his Black Widows, are attempting to take out the generators and restore free will to Earth’s inhabitants, and the Zone Riders are their only protection.
Although the zombie craze in TV and film is waning, granting the bad guy full command over them should be enough of a play to set it apart from the rest of the zombie scene. If ever made into a movie, Spiral Zone could be fantastic.
