It has been two years since Zombieland: Double Tap came out, which means it has been two years since we have had a “Zombie Kill of the Week.” For those who don’t know, a Zombie Kill of the Week is quite simply how it sounds: the best and most unique way a zombie has been killed, as agreed upon by the characters in Zombieland. Of course, zombie movies have always been popular, but by having the Zombie Kill of the Week, the franchise ups the ante when it comes to unique kills.

Before we reacquiaint ourselves with the best zombie kills, let’s refresh our minds on the Zombieland franchise. The original movie, Zombieland, came out in 2009 with the sequel released ten years later. Both movies star Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin who ultimately team up to survive a world populated by zombies. Together, the team faces off against these zombies in some gruesome battles. This zombie comedy (or zom-com) is more comedy than horror, but that does not stop the special effects team when they put together these gruesome zombie kills. From being crushed by a grand piano to being run over by a farm harvester, the Zombieland franchise has its fair share of humorous, but gory deaths. Here are a few of the most memorable and gruesome kills in the Zombieland franchise.

7 Bill Murray vs Zombies

     Sony Pictures Releasing

In Zombieland: Double Tap, we meet up with Bill Murray in an end-credit scene. If you don’t remember, Bill Murray, playing a zombie version of himself, was part of the first Zombieland movie where he was, unfortunately — and accidentally — killed by Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg). In the sequel, we get to see Murray in action, when the zombie outbreak first occurred. During an interview with Al Roker for Garfield 3 movie, Al transforms into a zombie who is quickly killed by Murray with a folding chair. To escape the building full of zombies, Murray has to use the chair and whatever else he can find to get out alive. While this scene was not the most gruesome, it provided great sound effects and a humorous end to the franchise.

6 Zombie Monster Truck Squish

The four main characters, Columbus, Tallahassee, Wichita, and Little Rock, often find themselves in need of rescuing. They always seem to come out unscathed, but this time, a new character has to save them in the second film. Nevada, played by Rosario Dawson, saves the group by riding the zombies over with her monster truck. The sound effects in this scene add to the gruesome nature in an epic way.

5 Zombie Kill of the Week: Harvester Kill

Zombie Kill of the Week is an award that is sought after by those who are still human. In Zombieland: Double Tap, the award goes to a farmer and his unique kill. Using his massive harvester, this creative farmer chases down a zombie and runs him over. As pictured above, the zombie falls and is run over with the blades thoroughly ripping it apart.

4 Zombie Clown Beat Down

In the original movie, we learn pretty early on that Columbus is afraid of many things, including clowns. A good horror movie, even those underlined with humor, has to include a character’s biggest fear. At a pivotal moment towards the end of the first movie, Columbus comes face to face with a zombie clown. In order to save his crush, Wichita, Columbus has to beat his biggest fear. Using a mallet he finds nearby, Columbus gets the clown on his back and ends him with a fatal and gruesome blow to the head.

3 Death By a Grand Piano

In the original movie, the first Zombie Kill of the Week is awarded to Sister Cynthia Knickerbocker who manages to kill a zombie by dropping a piano on him. In this scene, Cynthia is walking back to her building. When she gets there, she rings a bell that signals to her team that they should drop the piano. While this is not the most gruesome, it earns a spot for its creativity. It’s hard to imagine how a group of nuns got the piano on the roof in the first place, but still a creative kill.

2 Supermarket Multi-Zombie Slaughter

In one of the most gruesome, back-to-back kills, we get to see Tallahassee in his butt-kicking business. The brave Tallahassee reluctantly teams up with the timid Columbus as they are both looking for something — in Tallahassee’s case, it’s a Twinkie. In the first movie, they stop at a grocery store in the hopes that there are Twinkies inside. Instead, they find three large zombies. Using a banjo, hedge clippers, and an aluminum bat, Tallahassee successfully kills all three zombies sending their blood — and heads — flying.

1 Enter the T800 Super Zombies

In Zombieland: Double Tap, a new breed of zombies is born that are smarter and more resistant to gunshots. The T800 zombie is first shown after the group has gunned down multiple zombies. From his vantage point atop the RV, Columbus calls out positions for the rest of the group to take out the herd of zombies. Complete with blood sprays and gruesome sound effects, this scene tops itself in terms of gore when the T800 zombie steps into the clearing. Tallahassee shoots the zombie in the head, but to everyone’s dismay, it gets back up. It ultimately takes multiple gunshots and a head stomp to finally finish this zombie off.
