Show business is not all about talent: most artists have to work very hard to hone their skills in order to become successful, and they also need to have a clear understanding of what projects could be rewarding for them and which ones to ultimately turn down. On top of all this, there is one slightly superficial but extremely important thing they also need to consider: their appearance. In such a competitive industry overflowing with talent, artists ought to pay special attention to enhance the attributes that make them stand out and differentiate them from the rest.

Yet, standing out from the crowd can be difficult, and frequently some incredible celebrity doppelgangers appear in the media and social networks, as is the case, per Elle, of Paige Neimann, a young TikToker with a striking resemblance to singer Ariana Grande. This also occurs, albeit less often, among celebrities themselves, and throughout the years there have been some celebrity pairs that look so similar to each other that they could very well be related, and even act as twins in any film or television production. Some of them are even mistaken by die-hard fans of their doppelgangers on the street, having to clarify more than once that they are not that person. Here are eight examples of the most incredible celebrity doppelgangers.

The striking resemblance of the Harry Potter actor to the British singer is undeniable. In fact, during interviews, Rupert Grint has said that, when he gets greeted by people in the street, about half of them think they’re saying hello to Ed Sheeran. However, after many years of talking about it, by 2017 Grint appeared on MTV’s After Hours dressed as the singer and, during a comedy skit, he revealed that, in reality, Sheeran had never existed: he was just a character he created following an identity crisis after finishing his role in Harry Potter. Both performers had a good laugh at their resemblance over the years, and even took photos together wearing matching outfits.

Jessica Chastain and Bryce Dallas Howard have been mistaken for one another ever since they started their careers, yet they only became aware of their resemblance by comparing themselves in the 2011 film The Help, in which they both starred. That wasn’t the only time they spoke of their similarities, though. Chastain, well-known for her roles in Interstellar and The Martian, commented on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that she was complimented several times for roles played by Howard, even in her early days, when she performed in a play and got complimented on the street for “her part in the movie The Village”. For her part, Howard told Conan O’Brien in an interview that she’s used to being mistaken for Chastain, but it only happens when she’s wearing makeup.

6 Antoni Porowski & John Mayer

Ever since Antoni Porowski conquered the audience on Queer Eye, fans poured into social media commenting on his resemblance to singer John Mayer. While the latter did not elaborate on this resemblance, the food and wine expert on the Netflix series has exchanged a few messages with fans, first joking about not seeing the similarities and eventually uploading a picture to his social networks mimicking a photo of Mayer.

5 Natalie Portman & Keira Knightley

Such is the resemblance between Natalie Portman and Keira Knightley that for the 1999 film Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, Knightley acted as Portman’s double. Over the years, it became increasingly noticeable, and by 2014 Knightley told Graham Norton in an interview that she was often mistaken for Portman, and was even chased around airports being called “Natalie” for autographs. At the time, she mentioned that on a few occasions, she has also been mistaken for Kate Winslet, Rachel Weisz, and even Britney Spears.

4 Henry Cavill & Matt Bomer

Matt Bomer and Henry Cavill have created a dilemma on social media because even though their profiles and acting style are completely different, their physical likeness has fans wondering which one is which in every picture they see. Bomer has spoken about this in 2019 on The Ellen Degeneres Show and said he would absolutely love to be like Cavill. A lesser known fact that also ties these actors together is that they have both played Superman: Cavill in the DC Extended Universe, and Bomer in a J.J. Abrams and Brett Ratner movie that was never released.

3 Zooey Deschanel & Katy Perry

Katy Perry took advantage of her resemblance to Zooey Deschanel on several occasions. On one hand, she invited Deschanel to take part in the music video for “Not the End of the World” in 2020, in which she clearly made a reference to the audience’s confusion regarding their likeness. In an Instagram Live when launching the video, Perry confessed to the actress that, many years ago, she used to take advantage of the resemblance in order to get into clubs when she had no money and was not well-known. Zooey, for her part, told her she already knew, as on some occasions people in the industry came up to her and talked about previous encounters that she didn’t recall had happened.

2 Jeffrey Dean Morgan & Javier Bardem

By the time Javier Bardem won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for No Country for Old Men, Jeffrey Dean Morgan was making it big on screen as Denny Duquette in the drama series Grey’s Anatomy, and from then on, the audience couldn’t help but notice the resemblance between both actors. Morgan, also, spoke in an interview of an unprecedented situation as a result of this confusion: he attended a party in New York, and while walking down the red carpet, paparazzi called him as “Javier, Javier!”. Just to be funny, he flipped his middle finger to them. The following day, the picture was published in magazines as if it truly was Bardem’s, along with an explanatory text on the Spanish actor’s alleged misbehavior.

1 Margot Robbie & Emma Mackey

The leading actress of the upcoming film Barbie and the star of the Sex Education series round up this list of celebrity doppelgangers bearing an undeniable resemblance. And just like the rest of the pairs, they also got comments about it. Margot Robbie has stated that she has been complimented on a few occasions for her work in Sex Education and she had to clarify that it wasn’t actually her, but Mackey. Meanwhile, Emma Mackey commented that, while people constantly tell her about the resemblance, she just doesn’t see it. And even though she thinks Robbie is amazing, she would like people to focus on their respective work rather than their appearance.
