Pixar’s films do not only elevate the protagonist. They also create a vast amount of exciting and intriguing supporting characters. While The Incredibles is mainly about the Parr family and their different superpowers, the film is filled with developed supporting characters. Due to that, a number of them have the potential to earn their own solo movie, whether it be a spinoff, sequel, or prequel to the original story. However, The Incredibles is not the only Pixar film with side characters that warrant their own solo movie. Given Pixar’s long list of films, there are numerous characters that could help expand the Pixar universe.

A spinoff, sequel, or prequel could have the potential to expand on an already intriguing character. However, they also have the potential to create an origin story that has not already been shared with the audience; dive deeper into how that character became who they are when the audience meets them, or give closure to what occurred once the credits of the original film rolled. A solo movie is a big responsibility, but that does not mean that a supporting character does not have what it takes to carry a film to greatness. Instead, they may even help make the original movies even better.

8 Syndrome (The Incredibles)

         Buena Vista Pictures Distribution

The Incredibles gives a glimpse of how young and excited Buddy Pine eventually becomes Syndrome. He is crushed after his hero, Mr. Incredible, barely acknowledges Buddy’s attempts to help with his inventions. But, his goal was to find a way to make everyone super, which would strip away the unique factors that come with natural superhumans. Although Syndrome’s story ends in an explosion during The Incredibles, a spinoff could give details into his life growing up. What other factors influenced Buddy’s decision to grow into Syndrome? When did he decide to try and provide the world’s civilians with super abilities? How many attempts did he make at a plan or a working on a dangerous robot before Mr. Incredible was called to the scene? Syndrome is one of Pixar’s most iconic antagonists, and a spinoff focused on him might be an exciting perspective into the making of a villain.

7 Little Bo-Peep (Toy Story Series)

Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Animation Studios

Unfortunately, not every toy got to stay in Andy’s house. Little Bo-Peep ended up being one of the unfortunate toys sent away. But what happens when Woody reunites with Little Bo-Peep years later? Toy Story had always suggested that the meaning of a toy’s life was to be with a child or one particular owner. But, Toy Story 4 proves that theory wrong. While a toy’s journey still involves children, being a lost toy is not nearly as horrible as previous films or Woody made it out to be. Traveling the world means making hundreds of kids happy rather than just one.

Little Bo-Peep had always been a supporting character. But, in Toy Story 4, she gets to be a far more included ensemble member with strong opinions and perspectives. She has lived a completely different life. But how did her journey lead Bo-Peep to where she was in Toy Story 4? What happened between leaving Andy’s house and reuniting with Woody? Bo-Peep goes through a massive character transformation over the years. Diving into that development, what caused it, and how Bo-Peep’s perspective on life changed along the way could make for an exciting story.

6 Frozone (The Incredibles)

Frozone and his wife delivered some of the most iconic lines of dialogue in Pixar history. Frozone is a major player in The Incredibles, using his ice powers to help defeat villains. But, The Incredibles never dives deep into Frozone’s history as a hero. What type of villains did he fight? How were his ice powers used to save the day? He is meant to be a big deal as a hero, and a spinoff focussing on him could help fill in the blanks on his heroic actions. But, a Frozone spinoff could also have a perk that The Incredibles movies never gave the audience.

Although she has one of the most memorable lines in the film, Frozone’s wife is never shown on screen. Frozone’s relationship with his wife could become a focal point of a spinoff surrounding him, just as Bob and Helen’s marriage and relationship with their children were vital in The Incredibles and The Incredibles 2.

5 Ming (Turning Red)

     Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

Mei spends Turning Red struggling between loving her red panda and uncertainty toward her counterpart. However, the journey to self-love and discovery is part of what makes her a relatable character and why the movie is so important. However, Turning Red also teases that Mei’s mother, Ming, never entirely found love for her red panda. Although Ming’s red panda is shown, as well as revealing that she struggled with the transformations more than Mei, Ming’s storyline is still significant. Could it be a prequel showing Ming dealing with the same discovery of transformation and why she decided to lock that part of herself away? Could it be a sequel, diving into Ming choosing to embrace that side of herself to a more significant degree? Either way, Ming is an essential part of Turning Red and interesting enough to warrant her a solo film.

4 Edna (The Incredibles)

There may not be a more charismatic character in the entirety of The Incredibles or its sequel than Edna. Although Edna is a supporting character, every second she spends on screen is a masterpiece. Edna steals every moment she is part of, whether it be her actions, dialogue, or charismatic personality. As the fashion icon of the movies, her role involved creating the super suits, along with her signature move of refusing to include capes after so many superheroes died due to cape costumes gone wrong, usually resulting in death. But how did this become Edna’s career? What drove her to create superhero outfits? A solo movie about Edna could be an origin story, showing her initial causes for creating superhero outfits, and how she eventually became so successful.

3 Boo (Monsters Inc)

Boo is too young in Monsters Inc to understand exactly what her personality would grow up to be. This might be one of the most significant reasons she could carry a solo movie. There is no real personality a sequel would need to match or justify. The movie can create an older portrayal of the character without contradicting character elements from Monsters Inc. What is Boo like as a pre-teen? Teenager? Young adult? What are Mike and Sully up to by this point in time? Could their worlds collide again? What would happen if they did? Pixar already showed a younger Mike and Sully in Monsters University. The studio could also offer the potential to answer questions or reunite Boo with the monsters that helped save her life and return her home.

2 Jessie (Toy Story Series)

Walt Disney Pictures / Pixar Animation Studios

Audiences get a taste of Jessie’s devastating backstory during Toy Story 2. But, there is always room to expand on the years between Jessie being left behind by her human child and how she was eventually found to join a collection. Jessie has one of the most tragic origin stories of anyone in the Toy Story franchise. But, when she ultimately joined Andy’s toys, Jessie flourished with new friends. Although Jessie became a more significant favorite to Bonnie than Woody in Toy Story 4, that may not have concluded Jessie’s story either.

1 The Tank Fish (Finding Nemo)

     Pixar

How did they end up in the tank at the dentist’s office? What were their lives like before? What were their lives like after they had escaped? The tank fish are there for Nemo when he ends up briefly joining their group. However, as their stories were not central to the plot, they remained side characters without the same development gifted to Nemo, Marlin, and Dory. But, that does not mean there is no room to expand on those characters. As a group, their lives in the ocean after being away from it for so long, could develop their personalities in the world, showing who they are when life gets more challenging than it had in the tank.
