Prepare yourselves as best you can, animal lovers! Thor: Love and Thunder features the integral performances of some amazing-looking goats! Let’s face it, goats are amazing. Goats are, inarguably, one of the most incredible animals on the planet. Their scream, dangling chins, constantly confused looks, and whimsical tongues just hanging out make them easy to love. But what is even more impressive than ordinary goats are Asgardian space goats, pulling a floating vessel called the Goat Boat and voiced by director Taika Waititi (or perhaps adapted EDM tracks).

With the popular rise of goat yoga, probably one of the more spiritually enlightening activities you can currently participate in, these Asgardian goats are about to have a big moment in the cosmic sun – screams, tongues, and all. That is what Taika Waititi, the comedic genius behind the next Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder, has prepared for the franchise’s devoted fans, who eagerly anticipate this long-awaited summer blockbuster.

But we are not here to talk about Mjolnir, Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) transition from dad to god bod, Jane Foster as Mighty Thor, or Natalie Portman’s impressive arms (although this is all tempting). No. Today, folks, we are here to talk about some goats. Let’s kick off this goat-appreciation session!

Introducing Toothgnasher and Toothgrinder: The Story Behind the Goats

     Marvel Comics

In the original Thor comic books, the fierce fighter-goats who courageously and fearlessly pull the Goat Boat are menacingly named Toothgnasher and Toothgrinder. The comic book goats, however, look a bit more formidable than the goats depicted in Taika Waititi’s version, who we would absolutely do yoga with. The tongues of the comic book goats don’t comically hang out of their mouths and flap around like Waititi’s goats, for example, and they are not quite so fluffy and just absolutely delightful.

All that we know for sure is that the Asgardian goats of the Goat Boat will be featured prominently in Thor: Love and Thunder. Even though these goats are almost certainly CGI, they may be such important characters that they are actually paid actors, after all! The goats and the Goat Boat have already been manufactured into a popular toy that pulls a Pop Funko version of Thor himself, and fans are absolutely loving it.

In the movie’s official trailer, the goats Toothgnasher and Toothgrinder can be seen at the center of the action, pulling a magical boat across vast distances at rainbow or light speed. In a way, Toothgnasher and Toothgrinder almost stand as replacements for the destroyed Bifrost. The Bifrost was pretty cool, but it was definitely not as cool as a bunch of goats. Furthermore, the Goat Boat appears to be the location of several of the movie’s important interactions, such as the romantically charged conversations of Thor and Jane. They seem to be rekindling their romance from way back in the first movie eight years ago.

We can only assume Toothgnasher and Toothgrinder will directly interface with some of Thor: Love and Thunder’s most crucial developments and character dynamics. They may even lend some of their wise and glorious screams of enthusiasm to the broader conversation, as well as provide some hilarious opportunities for trademark Waititi comedic timing.

Who Is the Voice Talent Behind Thor: Love and Thunder’s Goats?

     Marvel Studios

Finally, we come to the ultimate speculation of who is the voice behind these goats who we already love and think are incredible. Sources have reported that the goat screams of Toothgnasher and Toothgrinder come from EDM tracks, which is a whole new concept in the professional and engrossing world of goat scream sound effects.

Chris Hemsworth, meanwhile, has been telling people that the voice of the goats is Taika Waititi himself, because, according to Hemsworth, he has heard Waititi scream like that before. Also, according to Hemsworth, the goats will scream quite a lot in the film, giving us plenty of material to try and work out just who or what is voicing these goats. Waititi also voices Korg, Thor’s new friend who is made from a collection of various rocks.

We just do not deserve Taika Waititi screaming like a goat, nor do we deserve the filmmaker engineering some of our favorite EDM beats into the screams of these dangerously wonderful space goats. Toothgnasher and Toothgrinder, though they are just one facet of a movie jam-packed with immense promise of payoff and something to get every Marvel fan excited, are most certainly, as we have clearly proven, in danger of stealing the whole show.

We cannot wait to marvel (get it) at the Asgardian space goats Toothgnasher and Toothgrinder when Thor: Love and Thunder is released in theaters on July 8, 2022!
