The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues with Thor: Love and Thunder, which finds Thor on a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher, who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie, Korg, and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi, who co-wrote the script with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, Thor: Love and Thunder stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor alongside Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jaimie Alexander as Lady Sif, Waititi as Korg, Russell Crowe as Zeus, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster aka The Mighty Thor, and Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Sean Gunn, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper, reprising their respective roles as the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Thor: Love and Thunder is One of the MCU’s Lowest Rated Offerings
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures
The 29th installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thor: Love and Thunder has been met with largely mixed reviews from critics. While it has continued the franchise’s financial success, grossing $737 million worldwide and counting, Thor: Love and Thunder was criticized for its tonally inconsistent screenplay. Unfortunately, Thor: Love and Thunder is now considered one of the lowest-rated MCU offerings, sitting at just 65% on Rotten Tomatoes. The only Marvel movie lower in the rankings is the Eternals, which has a mere 47%.
Of course, ratings aren’t everything, and with Thor: Love and Thunder setting up further adventures for the Asgardian Avenger, star Chris Hemsworth would love to return for more.
So, once again, for those in the back, Thor: Love and Thunder will land on Disney+ on September 8, coinciding with Disney+ Day.
