Be warned, MAJOR SPOILERS for Thor: Love and Thunder to follow.

Marvel sequel Thor: Love and Thunder is due to land in theaters later this week, and while we patiently await the return of the MCU hero, several details have now seemingly leaked early. Namely, the details of the post credits scene, which will introduce a major character to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The details of the post credits scene have now emerged on social media from a variety of sources (this one comes courtesy of Twitter user @TheOtherGarth) with all of them claiming the same thing: that the final moments of Thor: Love and Thunder will introduce Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein as Hercules.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

The scene reportedly begins with Russell Crowe’s Zeus recovering from the beating that he takes from Thor earlier in the movie. Zeus laments the fact that humans no longer care about gods and only seem to like superheroes these days, and tasks Hercules with bringing the gods back to the fore. This is when Brett Goldstein’s Hercules is revealed. So, it seems that Thor 5 will be Thor versus Hercules — something which Marvel fans have looked forward to seeing on the big screen for some time.

Marvel’s Hercules first appeared Avengers #10 back in 1964. Adapted from mythology by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist/co-plotter Jack Kirby, Hercules possesses all the powers you would expect of a god including superhuman strength, durability, speed, reflexes, stamina, and endurance. He is the champion of the Olympians and should provide Thor with a more than worthy opponent come the inevitable sequel.

As for the Hercules actor Brett Goldstein, there have been rumors of him joining the MCU as the character for some time. Rumors which it seems have turned out to be true. An English actor, comedian and writer, Goldstein is best known for his role as Roy Kent in the sports comedy series Ted Lasso, for which he has been awarded the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

Thor: Love and Thunder finds Thor on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher, who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie, Korg, and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi and starring Chris Hemsworth as Thor alongside Christian Bale as Gorr, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jaimie Alexander as Sif, Waititi himself as Korg, Russell Crowe as Zeus, and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, with the likes of Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper reprising their roles as the Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor: Love and Thunder will be released in the United States on July 8, 2022, as part of Phase Four of the MCU.
