An epic new poster for Thor: Love and Thunder sees Chris Hemsworth lift Stormbreaker amid what can only be a chorus of shredding guitars. Taking a lot of inspiration from the awesome 80s, the promo celebrates the return of “The One and Only” Thor on what is surely one of the best posters in Marvel Cinematic Universe history.

Released via the official Thor Twitter account, the poster has Thor sporting his sleeveless leather vest, t-shirt, and jeans, raising Stormbreaker to the cloudy, crisp blue skies, which are disturbed by a crackling lightning bolt down the middle. Falling somewhere between He-Man and Heavy Metal, the poster is no doubt indicative of the most triumphant tone that will permeate throughout Thor: Love and Thunder, director Taika Waitit’s “craziest film” yet.

“Well, just between [me and] you and the readers, I’ve done some crazy sh*t in my life. I’ve lived, like, ten lifetimes. But it’s the craziest film I’ve ever done,” the filmmaker previously explained. “If you wrote down all the elements of this film, it shouldn’t make sense,” he added, “It’s almost like it shouldn’t be made. If you walked into a room and said, ‘I want this and this and this.’ Who’s in it? These people. What are you going to call it? Love And Thunder. I mean, you’d never work again. Maybe I won’t after this.”

A New Synopsis Offers Further Thor: Love and Thunder Details

While the newly released trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder managed to expertly give very little away, a synopsis has offered further details regarding the MCU movie’s plot. Not too much though, of course. “The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace,” the outline begins. “But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late. Directed by Waititi (“Thor: Ragnarok,” “Jojo Rabbit”) and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, “Thor: Love and Thunder” opens in theaters July 8, 2022.”

Directed by Thor: Ragnarok’s Taika Waititi, who has co-written the screenplay alongside Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, Thor: Love and Thunder sees Chris Hemsworth once again starring in the title role with Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, Chris Pratt, Jaimie Alexander, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Jeff Goldblum, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper all reprising their roles from previous Marvel outings. Thor: Love and Thunder will also see Academy Award winner Christian Bale join the fray as the villainous Gorr the God Butcher.

Thor: Love and Thunder is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 8, 2022, as part of Phase Four of the MCU.
