Director’s cuts have been further popularized by the successful release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League following a successful fan campaign, but we shouldn’t expect to see a longer version of Thor: Love and Thunder. Directed by Taika Waititi, Love and Thunder is the fourth solo Thor film to feature Chris Hemsworth in the role of the titular god. He is joined by Natalile Portman as Jane “Mighty Thor” Foster and Christian Bale as the sympathetic but sinister supervillain Gorr the God Butcher.

With Thor: Love and Thunder doing well at the box office, should we expect to see a longer version someday, similar to the Snyder Cut or the recently-announced “More Fun Stuff” version of Spider-Man: No Way Home? Don’t count on it, according to Waititi. Speaking about director’s cuts with NME, Waititi didn’t pull punches when sharing his opinion that he does not like them. Because he feels that director’s cuts are not enjoyable to watch, he can’t imagine himself giving Thor: Love and Thunder the “Waititi Cut” treatment.

This doesn’t mean Waititi can’t tease what the Thor 4 director’s cut might be like, for those wondering. The director says that it would mostly just be more of a comedy that would put in a lot of jokes that didn’t make the final cut. He does refer to the film’s deleted scenes and notes that they had been cut for a reason.

Chris Hemsworth doesn’t know what Marvel has planned for the future of Thor, but he recently made it clear that he’s happy to keep going in the role. The actor was directly asked about how he feels about doing more Thor movies after Love and Thunder, and he basically said it’s up to the fans and how they respond to this new film.

“I’ll keep coming back for more and more until someone kicks me off the stage,” Hemsworth said. “I love it. My whole career has been based around this character, and to come back and play it again and again with different directors and different casts has been an absolute joy. We’ll see what the fans want. I’m down for whatever’s enjoyable, and having a good time, and that’s what this experience in the Marvel world has been for me, so, bring it on!”

Thor: Love and Thunder is now playing in movie theaters.
