This follows the recent release of Tiger King 2, the second season of last year’s hit series Tiger King: Murder, Madness and Mayhem. The first season delves into the community of big cat conservationists with a particular focus on the feud between Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin, resulting in Exotic’s 22-year prison sentence. Season 2 delves into the aftermath of season 1 along with the theories about the disappearance of Don Lewis. Baskin had sued to get the release blocked but was unsuccessful.
In the original Tiger King docuseries, Doc Antle was interviewed at his private zoo in Myrtle Beach. Joe Exotic accused Antle of euthanizing tigers unnecessarily and a former employee alleged Angle was sleeping with many women who worked for him at the zoo. For his part, Antle denied these claims. Last year, he was indicted by a grand jury on charges of wildlife trafficking, animal cruelty, and violations of the Endangered Species Act.
“I categorically deny any act or conduct that could ever be considered as ‘animal cruelty,’” Antle said in a statement at the time. “I have spent my entire professional life promoting the welfare and conservation of big cats and other species.”
In contrast to that, Human Society of the United States president and chief executive Kitty Block said, “Antle’s tiger mill has been the source of immense cruelty to hundreds of tigers and must be shut down. We know firsthand all about his treatment of animals.”
“I have deep regard and feelings for the animals in my care and would never hurt or abuse them in any way,” Antle retorted. “I look forward to being able to answer these charges and be able to clear my good name.”
This new docuseries consists of three episodes. It is directed by Rebecca Chaiklin and Eric Goode. Chaiklin and Goode also executive produced with Chris Smith, Fisher Stevens, and Jeremy McBride. You can watch Tiger King: The Doc Antle Story on Netflix. The documentary will be released on Dec. 10. Meanwhile, the story of the Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin feud will be told in an upcoming limited series at Peacock with Kate McKinnon as Carole Baskin.
