An actor whose been in the spotlight since he was 18 is sure to have a few fans on social media, as Chalamet does. Chalamet currently holds 17.7 million followers on his Instagram, however, he isn’t happy with what the popularity brings him. During a press conference at the 2022 Venice Film Festival, Chalamet tells Variety he believes social media is bringing a “societal collapse,” saying, “I think it’s hard to be alive now.”

Bones and All will be Timothée Chalamet’s latest outing at the theater. The project comes from Luca Guadagnino, who the actor has previously worked with on Call Me by Your Name. The film is based on the Novel by Camille DeAngelis, following Meren, a teenager unable to overcome her inborn desire to eat anyone who lusts for her too much. Chalamet is joined by Taylor Russell, Michael Stuhlbarg, Chloë Sevigny, David Gordon Green, Jessica Harper, and Mark Rylance.

“To be young today… I can’t imagine what it is to grow up without the onslaught of social media. And at least here [In ‘Bones and All’] there are characters wrestling with internal blood lines vis-a-vis growing up with Instagram or Twitter, trying to figure out where they fit in with that. I’m not casting judgement. You can find your tribe there. I think it’s hard to be alive now. I think societal collapse is in the air. That’s why hopefully this movie will matter.”

During a press release statement, director Guadagnino shared his praise for Chalamet, saying he thinks “only Timothée can play this role.” “He’s fantastic, a great performer and to see him soaring the way he is doing now, I feel proud of him.” Guadagnino continues, “And this character is something very new for him, both endearing and heartbreaking.”
