The original Jigsaw is coming back to the Saw movie series. Back in 2004, horror legend Tobin Bell made his first appearance as John Kramer as the antagonist of the original movie. The character has long since been killed off, but in a way that remains to be seen, he will be back with Bell reprising the role once again for next year’s Saw 10. This news was first reported by One Take News and has been verified by the franchise’s official Twitter account.

The tweet simply reads: “time to play by tobin bell’s rules. again.”

“What a thrill to be reuniting with Tobin," producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules also said of Bell’s return. “His performance as John Kramer is part of the magic that made this franchise a phenomenon and his character is an active part of this film.”

Saw 10 was announced in August by Burg and Koules. They revealed that Kevin Greutert will also be making a return to the series as the director of Saw 10; he previously helmed Saw VI, which the producers describe as “one of the fans’ favorites in the entire series,” as well as its sequel Saw 3D.

No plot details have yet been revealed for the sequel.

The Saw Franchise Continues as Jigsaw’s Legacy Lives On

Saw 10 may not be the only expansion of the horror franchise’s universe that fans can look forward to. Last year, it was also reported that there were talks beginning to adapt Saw as a television series. Spiral director Darren Lynn Bousman also told us in an exclusive interview last year that he hopes the franchise continues to grow into a cinematic universe reminiscent of the MCU.

“I have found a renewed interest in the Saw universe,” he said. “I thought that it was played out and I had done everything I could. Getting a chance to work with people like Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson has kind of reinvigorated my love for these type of stories and what can be done with them. I think there’s a lot more to tell and a lot more I’d want to tell.”

He further teased, “You’re not done seeing Tobin Bell at all… You might see a TV series. So I think you’ll be seeing the Marvelverse of the Saw franchise, where there are different storylines taking place. And I think that that’s what it’s going to be. It’ll exist in the same universe, and there will be different storylines taking place.”

Time will tell on the rumored TV show, but Saw 10 will hit theaters on Oct. 27, 2023.
