Stop asking Toby Kebbell about his role in the Fantastic Four reboot that bombed upon its release in 2015. Ignoring the two prior Fantastic Four films that came before it, the 2015 movie was directed by Josh Trank with its titular team consisting of Miles Teller as Reed Richards, Kate Mara as Sue Storm, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm, and Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm. Kebbell starred opposite the group as Victor Von Doom, the movie’s incarnation of the Marvel supervillain Doctor Doom.
Unfortunately for those involved, Fantastic Four was not a success. It underperformed at the box office, reportedly costing the studio tens of millions of dollars. Reviews were no better from those who’d seen the film, as it sits with an abysmal 9% score at Rotten Tomatoes; its audience score isn’t much higher at 18% rotten. Of course, this lack of success killed all plans to develop any sequels, and the new plan is to reboot the group once again with an all-new cast for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

About eight years later, Kebbell has addressed his role as Doom in the movie for what he hopes will be the last time. In a new interview with ComicBook.com to promote his Apple TV+ series Servant, Kebbell said in his own fun way that he doesn’t want to answer any more questions about the film, perhaps feeling embarrassed by his association with it. After noting how his Servant character cooked his wife’s placenta, Kebbell was asked if he would rather eat “placenta puff” than answer another Fantastic Four question, and he had this to say in response.

Kebbell’s Servant co-stars Neil Tiger Free and Lauren Ambrose tried to lift the actor’s spirits by telling him that he’s a talented actor, even if he happened to be in the dud that was the Fantastic Four movie. Still, Kebbell went on to joke that he’s actually so bad at acting that he “ruin(ed) cinema,” also pointing out another box office bomb that he appeared in back in 2018.
For what it’s worth, Servant has been faring much better comparatively. Its most recent third season scored a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and it has also drawn high praise from horror masterminds like Stephen King and Guillermo del Toro. You can find the series streaming on Apple TV+.
