Fan art has a way of bringing together ideas that no one saw coming, and a new poster based on Tom Hanks’ new movie, A Man Called Otto, delivers such a punch. Combining the Hanks film with Spider-Man villain Doc Ock, artist @rahalarts shared a crossover that is nothing short of genius. The new poster is for A Man Called Otto Octavius, which envisions Hanks’ grumpy character with Spider-Man 2’s antagonist.
The creative reimagining certainly brings a new take to Doc Ock, who has been played by Alfred Molina in both Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man sequel and 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. The idea of Hanks actually playing the role of Otto Octavius is a fun one, but with Molina’s iteration of the character being widely loved by Marvel fans, it is something that would never actually happen. Molina’s recent reprisal of his role in Tom Holland’s third Spider-Man movie helped cement his character’s place in the franchise’s history. His storyline may mean the character is not seen again in the MCU.

However, for the purpose of the fan art, Hanks’s dour face, complete with Doc Ock-tinted glasses, looks like a great multiverse variant of the villain. While most of his attire is a recolored version of Hanks’ A Man Called Otto character, he is flanked by a quartet of robotic arms to finish the appearance. While Hanks has yet to dip his toes into the Marvel pool, we can only wait and see whether this could instigate his desire to be part of the MCU.
Is Doc Ock’s Time in the MCU Over for Good?

The return of Alfred Molina in Spider-Man: No Way Home was just one of the many reasons the film blew away all expectations to become one of the highest-grossing movies of all time. The allowances of the multiverse to bring in characters from previous Marvel universes, such as Raimi’s Spider-Man world, made it possible for Molina to appear alongside other Spider-Man villains, such as Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin and could allow him to potentially return again.
That being said, Spider-Man: No Way Home seemed to bring Octavius’ story to a rounded conclusion, and seeing him return would possibly only serve to undo that. Naturally, after his redemption in the movie, his services could well be of use to the Avengers against Kang the Conqueror in Secret Wars, and that would likely be the only place he could maybe turn up again.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has just ended Phase 4 with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and as Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania comes along to remind everyone that the multiverse is about to take center stage, the possibilities for the coming years are endless. Fans have already started theorizing about characters and actors who could be turning up over the next three years. While none of these have included Doc Ock or an MCU debut for Tom Hanks, who knows what fan art like this could end up instigating.
