The film calendar of 2021 will end with the most anticipated sequel of all time, The Matrix: Resurrections, which release theatrically and stream on HBO Max on December 22, 2021. The film is establishing a new era, based on the legacy of the original The Matrix trilogy, while also directly continuing that story which ended with The Matrix Revolutions. The film is bringing the original characters from the trilogy while also adding up new elements, probably to shape up a new set of stories to continue even after Resurrections. Amidst Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, the film has got Tom Hardy as the latest addition to its huge diverse cast.

Actress Jessica Henwick, who is playing a character called Bugs in the film, revealed how Tom Hardy came into The Matrix: Resurrections. Speaking to Den of Geek, Henwick told that Tom Hardy crossed into the sets of The Matrix 4 when both Resurrections and Hardy’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage were being shot near locations in San Francisco. This earlier resulted in helicopters from Resurrections’ production coming into Venom 2. But that crossover didn’t last there. Henwick revealed how Tom Hardy just stopped by on the sets of The Matrix: Resurrections and ended up in the background of one of the sequences. However, whether the cut was actually made into the final cut of the film is not known to Henwick.

This is the second film of the year which may or may not include Tom Hardy’s cameo, the other being Spider-Man: No Way Home. Due to a picture Hardy shared wearing a No Way Home production hat, people speculate that Hardy will feature as Eddie Brock/Venom in the upcoming MCU film in some capacity, thus, bringing the SSU-MCU multiversal crossover official. However, none of these two Tom Hardy cameos in two different films are anywhere confirmed.

We were filming in San Francisco at the same time as Venom 2, and I met Tom Hardy. And so, Tom Hardy and I are running in the background of one of the scenes. And I’m so curious to see whether it made the cut.

If Hardy misses out on his cameo in The Matrix: Resurrections, it would be a repetition of history as Hardy has earlier had his cameo cut from Star Wars: The Last Jedi, wherein he donned a stormtrooper suit.

The Matrix: Resurrections revisits a fan-favorite world of programs and machines, which marked a landmark film series in the sci-fi genre. The film will also star Yahya Abdul Mateen II, Jada Pinkett Smith, Priyanka Chopra, Neil Patrick Harris, Lambert Wilson, and Jonathan Groff.

Henwick stated how the film will bring new elements but would take the audience back to the originals, making it a nostalgic trip:

The Matrix: Resurrections hits theaters, as well as debuts on HBO Max, on December 22, 2021.
