Tom Holland has set his sights on Jak and Daxter with the hopes of one day doing a dark and “weird” live-action adaptation of the video game series. Recently, Holland was asked by GameSpot to name his dream video game adaptation he’d like to take on next after first starring as Nathan Drake in Uncharted this month. The gamer and actor was quick to name Jak and Daxter, though he’d like to see the live-action spin put a twist on the story.
Developed by Naughty Dog, the first Jak and Daxter game, dubbed Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, was released on the PlayStation 2 in 2001. It follows Jak on a journey to find the Dark Eco sage Gol Acheron to help transform his friend Daxter, an ottsel (an otter-weasel hybrid), back into human form. The game was a hit and was followed up by multiple games. In 2017, many of the games were packaged together for the Jak and Daxter Bundle re-release on PlayStation 4.

Uncharted Has Been In Development For Many Years
Sony Pictures Releasing
Tom Holland will first be seen playing the role of iconic video game character Nathan Drake in Uncharted. This planned adaptation has been in the works for so long that at one point Mark Wahlberg, who plays the mentor character Sully in the film, was in the running to play Drake. Times are different now with so many video game adaptations having been released in recent years with even more on the way.
“Some of [the directors] came in, and had ideas that we didn’t like, that just didn’t fit the characters, and we had to move on to other people," Holland said of the need to find the right director for Uncharted, per Total Film. “We took inspiration from everyone. There were very different variations of Drake, and very different variations of Sully. Some people preferred to make the game, some people wanted to make it completely different to the game. It was an interesting process – one that I wouldn’t like to be in again. It’s quite stressful looking for a director.”
Ruben Fleischer directs Uncharted using a screenplay by Rafe Lee Judkins, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway. The film stars Tom Holland, Mark Wahlberg, Sophia Ali, Tati Gabrielle, and Antonio Banderas. You can read the official synopsis below.
Uncharted will be released in theaters on Feb 18, 2022.
