The trailer kicks off in pretty bleak fashion and shows its teeth quite early, with Miles Teller opening things up by saying, “I killed a woman last night.” The trailer footage is bathed in neon, synths and violence. It doesn’t appear to have an optimistic view of the world, but for those who enjoy wild action sequences that aren’t afraid of getting bloody, this may be just what the doctor ordered. It certainly looks to be right at home with Nicolas Winding Refn’s previous work, that’s for sure.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Nicolas Winding Refn also wrote the series alongside comic book legend Ed Brubaker, in addition to directing every episode. What’s particularly amazing is that each episode is said to be roughly 90 minutes, meaning they could all stand on their own as a feature-length movie, in terms of time anyway. Essentially, according to composer Cliff Martinez, who regularly works with Refn, It’s a 16-hour movie. Here’s what he had to say in a recent interview with ScreenDaily.

While a full synopsis has yet to be revealed, Too Old To Die Young centers on a grieving police officer investigating the criminal underworld of Los Angeles. Along the way, he encounters working-class hit men, Yakuza soldiers, cartel assassins from Mexico and even Russian mafia leaders. The cast also includes Billy Baldwin, Jena Malone, John Hawkes, Callie Hernandez, and August Aguilera.

“For me the biggest change is just the endurance to do what I think of as a ten-hour movie, or a 16-hour movie in the case of ‘Too Old To Die Young.’ It’s ten episodes that are around 90 minutes a piece. I warned Nic Winding Refn, you better drink a lot of coffee and get a lot of sleep when you can.”
