Fantasy is one of the top genres of movies and television since the creation of film as a medium. Across the world, these forms of entertainment take on unique forms often reflective of the host culture of the show. Korean dramas, for example, have heavily relied on local mythologies along with some broader ones from the West to create television shows that are dramatic and fun to watch. As a genre, fantasy encompasses a broad range of storylines, characters, and tropes that are all unique and keep audiences coming back for more.
Anime, too, has continued to innovate in recent years. Japanese anime as a mainstream form of consumption globally is a rather new phenomenon, but now, more than ever, its popularity holds steady. Anime is a rather broad term that encompasses many different genres under one umbrella they are animated, and fantasy anime, like Bleach and Death Note, have accumulated some pretty dedicated fans over the years. Some fantasy anime movies, like Your Name and Studio Ghibli films, have smashed ceilings and garnered English dubbing and adaptations.
