If you missed your chance to catch Top Gun: Maverick on the big screen, or if you just want another opportunity to do so again, Paramount Pictures has a special treat in surprise for you. The studio has just announced that they will be re-releasing the Top Gun sequel for a limited time in December, scheduling Maverick’s return to theaters for Dec. 2 through Dec. 15, 2022. This release includes showings in nationwide theaters including those with select premium large formats and IMAX.
It’s not a big surprise to see Paramount heading back to the well one last time as we close out 2022. Top Gun: Maverick has flown to immense success with its lengthy theatrical run this year, so far earning $716 million domestically and over $770 million internationally. That’s a global haul of more than $1.48 billion for Paramount, and the number will be able to get a little bit higher thanks to the upcoming two-week return to the big screen.

In addition to incredible box office success, Top Gun: Maverick has also been met with widespread acclaim from critics and filmgoers alike. It has a rare A+ CinemaScore, and over at Rotten Tomatoes, it sits with a 97% fresh rating on the Tomatometer along with an even higher 99% audience score. The film is Tom Cruise’s highest-grossing movie, and its release also set the record for the largest Memorial Day weekend opening of all time. Even its soundtrack found success, becoming the No. 1 album and soundtrack on iTunes and the No. 2 album on Spotify.
“Top Gun: Maverick truly epitomizes the magic of the moviegoing experience, and we wanted to provide fans the opportunity to once again enjoy this cinematic spectacle as it was meant to be seen," Chris Aronson, President of Domestic Distribution for Paramount Pictures, said in a statement addressing the re-release. “This feels like the perfect time to bring Top Gun: Maverick back to theaters so audiences everywhere can once again experience how special this film is.”
