CW has released the first trailer for The Winchesters, the Supernatural prequel. Drake Rodger (The In Between) and Meg Donelly (American Housewife) star as John Winchester and Mary Campbell. Jensen Ackles reprises his role of Dean to serve as the series narrator. Based in the 1970s, The Winchesters focuses on the untold love story John and Mary, the demon-hunting parents of Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean.
The trailer shows audiences a young John upon his return from Vietnam. He meets 19-year old-Mary, while she’s at battle with a demon (of course). Mary is looking for answers regarding her father’s whereabouts and eventually John decides to join in on her mission, while questioning his own father’s involvement with the supernatural. Nida Khurshid (Station 19) and newcomer Jojo Fleites will also appear as fellow demon-hunters.

Besides acting as the story narrator, Ackles will also serve as executive alongside his wife, Danneel Ackles, who also appeared on Supernatural. The Winchesters is written by Robbie Thompson and produced by Chaos Machine Productions, Warner Bros. Television and CBS Studios.
The Winchesters will premiere this Fall (perfect timing for some Halloween scares) and is scheduled to air Tuesdays at 8pm.
Supernatural’s Successful Run
The CW
Supernatural debuted in 2005 and ran for 15 seasons until its series finale in November 2020, becoming the network’s longest-running show. Supernatural was created by Eric Kripke, and starred Jared Padalecki, who was well known for his role of Dean in Gilmore Girls, and Jensen Ackles, who had previously appeared on multiple tv shows, including the popular teen dramas Dawson’s Creek and Smallville.
Supernatural and The Winchesters seem to have a major plotline in common, as Supernatural also began with its two central characters looking for their missing father (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan in the original series). As they embark on their adventure to find their father and answers for their questions about their mysterious family, the two must take on demons, ghosts and other spooky entities.
Through its early seasons, the show received mixed reviews, but over time, critic reviews became more favorable. Audiences enjoyed Supernatural, propelling the show into cult drama status. The series also starred Katie Cassidy (When A Stranger Calls), Lauren Cohan (The Walking Dead), Misha Collins (Girl, Interrupted), Mark A. Sheppard (Firefly), Mark Pellegrino (Dexter) and Alexander Calvert (The Edge of Seventeen).
Padalecki now stars in CW series Walker, a reboot of Walker, Texas Ranger. He is an executive producer on Walker’s spin-off series, Walker: Independence, which will join The Winchesters for the Fall lineup.
