Fans of the Transformers franchise knew several projects were coming down the pike. Yesterday, franchise followers were treated to some more information about some of the upcoming projects as part of a data blast this afternoon by Paramount.
Paramount’s Twitter page went crazy with an abundance of announcements of upcoming projects such as a Paw Patrol sequel, a villain-driven Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle project, a new Star Trek project, as well as several others. Some of the projects, however were not new announcements as much as they were updates. That is the position the Transformers announcement took. The blast for Transformers reaffirmed some known information and doubled down with new material from some upcoming projects.

The first bit of information was nothing new, but was significant. After Rise of the Beasts, the next live-action film in the franchise was pushed back to 2023, and the studio announced the date of 2023 was still in play. That announcement is seen below. The tweet leaves it open to interpretation on whether the film will be available for streaming first, indicating the film will arrive “theatrically” in 2023. The film will be the first live-action film to bring in the Maximals, which includes Optimus Primal, voiced by Ron Perlman. The Maximals will be rounded out by Rhinox and Airazor. They will join the Autobots with the legendary voice of Optimus Prime being reprised by Peter Cullen. Optimus will be joined by Arcee, Mirage, and of course, Bumblebee. The feature film will also introduce the Terrorcons. That group, whose name references a group of Transformers from the original cartoon, will be led by a villain named Scourge, who has had three previous iterations in other Transformers media.
The second part of the announcement was regarding the new Nickelodeon series, Transformers Earthspark. That series is now set to arrive in the fall of this year. Promotional stills furnished from the franchise’s Facebook page show a new robot communicating with children and a shot that features Optimus Prime and Elita-1. If you look closely at the Autobot insignia on Prime’s shoulder, you will notice it looks different than the iconic logo appears typically. Additionally, there is a very short teaser trailer that was released. You can view that trailer here as other stills below as well. The series looks to introduce a slew of new characters, both human and robot alike.

Finally, fans were treated to the release date of a feature-length Transformers animated film. That project will not be the first animated film the franchise has undertaken. The original film, The Transformers: The Movie was released in 1986 and is considered to still be one of the best films in the franchise that has since seen six more films. Not much is known right now outside of the release date of that project, but it will join Transformers: Zone, a film seen only in Japan and Transformers Prime Beast Hunters: Predacons Rising, in addition to The Transformers: The Movie as the franchise only official animated films.Paramount is going full blast into the next phase of Transformers. There will be a lot of announcements coming regarding these projects and Movieweb is the best place to read them. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts hits theaters in 2023, but fans can check out Transformers: Earthspark to wet their beaks until then.
