The Transformers franchise seemed to have rusted when The Last Knight was released, but somehow the arrival of the prequel movie Bumblebee in 2018 invigorated the franchise once again. Now fans are extremely hyped for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, and that has been proven as the first trailer for the movie pulled in double the views of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny combined.
According to Paramount (Via The Wrap), Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’ trailer was watched over 494 million times worldwide during its first week. While the Bumblebee sequel is certainly one of the most anticipated movies of 2023, it is hard to believe that the trailer has completely obliterated other big 2023 trailer releases of the past week, with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 drawing 182 million views and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’s 77 million views.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts has not had the same intrigue or mystery surrounding it as the other movies, but somehow that hasn’t stopped it from becoming one of the most-viewed trailers of the year. Considering the drop in interest in the Transformers franchise just five years ago, the turnaround has been nothing short of spectacular, proving that sometimes a change is as good as a rest. Bumblebee was one of the highest-rated and best-received Transformers movies of all time, thanks to its shift in pace and setting. Now Rise of the Beasts could elevate the franchise once more.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Will Bring a Classic Expedition to the Franchise
Paramount Pictures
Through the live-action Transformers movies, there has been constant criticism that the films do not develop their storylines beyond staggering from one robot-fight set piece to the next. Bumblebee provided a more engaging narrative as it rebooted the franchise, and it looks like Rise of the Beasts will continue to develop the story and take some inspiration from classic action movies. Director Steven Caple Jr. said previously:
Bumblebee brought a deep sense of 80s nostalgia to the franchise, which is highly appropriate considering that was the era when Transformers first found their audience. However, this time around, the action jumps a decade, meaning that the 1990s will be getting a bit of love, which will once again set the movie apart from the earlier films in the franchise. As a “spiritual” successor to Bumblebee, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts could be just what is needed to keep the Transformers franchise alive.
“Definitely. I think you’ll feel the sense of a journey and expedition in this film. This go-around that connects all of those to what you’re saying. Terminator 2 is classic. The heaviness of the metal, if you will, all that stuff plays into it. So I think when you’re looking at our film and looking at sort of where we’re taking it, [we] kind of want to bring that classic expedition, that classic journey through New York and where we go from there.”
