Tuca & Bertie is coming out with the third season, and if you haven’t seen it yet, you should really check it out. Tuca & Bertie is the show you didn’t know you needed and will have you hooked after a single episode. After being canceled by Netflix in its first year, fans of the show revolted, signing petitions and tweeting at executives, demanding that the show be continued on a different platform. And in 2021, Tuca & Bertie was picked up by Adult Swim, which was a very appropriate home for the psychedelic, life-affirming, boob-showing bird cartoon. Now, with increased popularity and a steady ride into the future, Adult Swim is getting ready to release season 3.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

With a solid fan base and now a thriving life on Cartoon Network’s late-night selection, Tuca & Bertie are sure to have a wonderful third season on the adult animation platform. It seems to be the place the show always belonged. And with several attachments to BoJack Horseman in style and staff, some wonder if the show will have similar success. Even if it didn’t come out of the gates strong, the fans have already spoken, and the show has nowhere to go but up.

Here’s everything we know about Tuca & Bertie season 3.

Season 3: The Plot

While there haven’t been very many details released on the plot yet, a trailer has been released recently. We can make some assumptions based on what we’ve seen in the past. Tuca is a party bird, and Bertie is a nervous wreck. Those are just parts of their characters. So based on that, we can probably assume a few things happening. But in the trailer, we get a few sneak peeks at the futures of our two favorite bird companions.

We see Tuca in the throes of a whirlwind romance with what looks like a very sexually active tree person, which we assume is what some of those teenage plants grow into. The tree says something like, “But I love all of you,” implying that it may not just be Tuca involved in this increasingly interesting relationship.

Bertie’s little flash in the trailer has her dealing with what seems to be worsening mental health issues. We see her curled up in the corner, rocking back and forth, and a therapist’s voice says, “As we get older, sometimes all we can see are the doors closing.” Which is a frightening thing to think about. Speckle asks if she is so sad because he and Tuca are doing so much better than her, which inevitably causes her to freak out even more.

All in all, it seems like a lovely new season, and we can’t wait to see more of the series.

Season 3: The Cast

     Adult Swim

In season 3, we can expect to see many of the same big hitters from last season. Tiffany Haddish stars as Tuca and Ali Wong as Bertie. Steven Yeun will remain as Speckle, still causing all sorts of anxiety but trying his best for Bertie. Lisa Hanawalt, BoJack Horseman’s famous art director and creator of Tuca & Bertie, will still be involved with the project, remaining an executive producer alongside Haddish, Wong, Raphael Bob-Waksberg (creator and showrunner of BoJack Horseman), Noel Bright (also from BoJack), and Stephen A. Cohen.

But also, coming up this next season, there promises to be many more guest stars than there were before. While you will still see some of your old favorite supporting characters, some new ones will be introduced, with voices you may have heard around the Adult Swim network before. For example, Margaret Cho will be returning as Bertie’s mother and has also been on Mike Tyson Mysteries. Maria Bamford will be back, likely as Patricia Ramsey, and she’s also appeared on Dream Corp LLC. Nicole Byer, who played Gamby (Speckle’s Grandmother) in the last season, will be making another appearance. Kether Donohue will come back, though it’s not certain as to who, but she’s also appeared on Robot Chicken and Adult Swim’s new show Birdgirl. And ironically enough, Birdgirl herself, Paget Brewster, will be involved in this new season.

There will be more recognizable voices from other programs as well. According to Collider, the cartoon will showcase the talents of Randall Park, who has been the grumpy S.H.I.E.L.D agent in many a Marvel production, most recently, WandaVision. Victoria Moroles from Teen Wolf will reportedly appear in the series. Nico Santos from Superstore and Crazy Rich Asians will be involved. Justina Machado from The Call will be voicing a character.

And fans will also be excited to see some familiar names from BoJack on the roster. Raphael Bob-Waksberg will return to cameo in the show-spanning Dapper Dog we saw in previous seasons. Matthew Rhys, who voiced Justin Kenyon on an episode of BoJack, is on the list to guest star. And Paul F. Thompkins, who was the voice of Mr. Peanutbutter on BoJack, appears to be making an appearance as well.

Release Date

Tuca & Bertie season 3 will premiere on Adult Swim on July 10, 2022.
