Twilight New Moon Director Says Taylor Swift Tried To Get A Role In The Film

Though best known for her success in music, pop star Taylor Swift has also pursued acting with various roles in feature films for more than a decade. This includes roles in films like Hannah Montana: The Movie, Valentine’s Day, The Giver, Cats, and Miss Americana. She also provided voiceover work for the animated Dr. Seuss movie The Lorax.

For Swift, however, there is at least one role that got away that she was really hoping to land. This is according to filmmaker Chris Weitz who directed Twilight: New Moon, the second installment of The Twilight Saga. On Ashley Greene’s The Twilight Effect podcast (via Entertainment Tonight), Weitz said that Swift, who had dated Twilight star Taylor Lautner around this time, had personally lobbied for a part in the sequel. In fact, she was apparently such a big Twilight fan that she didn’t care what role she had, as Weitz suggests she would’ve even served as an extra.

Unfortunately for Swift, the casting didn’t work out because she was just far too famous by that point. Weitz figured that viewers would be too busy focusing on Swift to pay attention to the other characters and the plot.

Weitz admits that there is some sense of regret over turning down Swift’s request, thinking about the experience that it would have been having the pop star on the set. However, Weitz had to think about what was best for the movie, leading to the decision to turn Swift away.

The Twilight Saga consists of five feature films released between 2008 and 2012. There have been rumblings and rumors over the years about another film in the series coming to fruition, but if that’s the case, the project can’t seem to make its way out of development hell. Given that the vampire characters don’t age, it grows less and less likely that another sequel could be made with every year that passes.

Of course, there is always the chance for a spinoff to be developed with different characters elsewhere in the Twilight universe. Maybe Swift will get lucky and get another shot at being in a Twilight movie should any of these rumors materialize.
