Uncharted is still king of the box office. After debuting in the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office last week, the film has maintained its spot at the top of the list for this weekend as well. The Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg vehicle pulled in $23.3 million to bring its total U.S. haul up to $83.4 million. Based on the popular video game series of the same name, Uncharted was expected to be a hit with Spider-Man star Tom Holland in the lead, and Sony has been pleased with its financial success.
Channing Tatum’s Dog movie came in at the second place spot with $10.1 million earned. That pulls up its domestic total to $30.9 million overall, performing best in United States theaters. Co-directed by Tatum and Reid Carolin, Dog follows Tatum as an Army Ranger who accepts an assignment to escort an Army dog to the funeral of her late handler, culminating with the two bonding along the way.

Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home is still swinging its way along at the box office with its No. 3 spot. The film drew $5.7 million in U.S. theaters to add to its domestic total of $779.8 million. That makes it one of the highest-grossing movies of all time. This, combined with its immensely positive reception with fans and critics, had many blasting the Academy Awards for snubbing the feature at the Oscars this year.
Making its debut well short of expectations was the new horror movie Studio 666. A meta-horror film starring Dave Grohl as a violently possessed Foo Fighters frontman, the movie pulled in about $1.5 million over the weekend. Directed by B.J. McDonnell, the film also stars Grohl’s bandmates Taylor Hawkin, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett, and Rami Jaffee. Also featured are Whitney Cummings, Leslie Grossman, Will Forte, Jenna Ortega, and Jeff Garlin.
Tom Holland Continues to Dominate the Top 3 Spots at Box Office
Sony Pictures Releasing
Sony has been quite pleased with the success of Uncharted, which has been competing with Spider-Man: No Way Home at the box office. Though, with both movies maintaining spots in the top three, it can all be seen as a huge win overall for Tom Holland, the lead star of both features. We will likely see Holland back as Spidey in the MCU soon enough. We’ll probably get more of him as Nathan Drake as well with Sony happy with the film’s success.
“With over $100M in box office worldwide in just one weekend, and a 90% positive audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, Uncharted is a new hit movie franchise for the company,” Sony CEO Tom Rothman said in a memo to Sony staff. “I want to thank all of the filmmakers, the wonderful cast and crew, and especially our friends at PlayStation Studios and Sony Interactive Entertainment for their support. And of course, I want to thank each and every one of you for your creativity, dedication and belief.”
A sequel hasn’t been officially announced but seems inevitable with Sony declaring Uncharted to be the tart of a new hit movie franchise. You can see the full top 10 list below, and you can check out more detailed information about the box office at The Numbers.
