We also saw Nora joining the LUDDS this season in an attempt to bring down the entire AI technology. However, she couldn’t get herself to do all that the LUDDS wanted in the end, but she managed to get the LUDDS on her side to bring down Freeyond before it was too late. Then there is Ingrid. The season premiere was a shocker when it was revealed that she hadn’t really uploaded herself after all. All she was doing was biding her time before Nathan’s body was ready in the real world so that she could download him back into it. A body that she secretly stored. The season finale saw Nathan being downloaded back into his body. However, the episode also stated that the technology wasn’t there yet, and there was a high chance his head would blow up in 24 hours. Season 2 of Upload left us with so many cliffhangers. What will happen to Nathan? What will happen to others in Lake View? There’s so much we expect to see in the third season!

Story So Far & Season 3’s Potential Plot

Season 2 of Upload ends on a cliffhanger. As we mentioned earlier, we see Nathan (Robbie Amell, of Code 8 fame) being downloaded into a clone body as prepared secretly by none other than his ex-girlfriend, Ingrid (Allegra Edwards). She arranged his body to be regrown in an extremely risky procedure as a desperate attempt to win him back.

While in Lake View, we saw Nathan spend most of his time figuring out why he was killed trying to get Freeyond, which enables the poor to upload for free. It turns out his murder was politically driven because had he succeeded, it would cause a loss in billions for the paid version, and there would’ve been an imbalance in power amongst the rich. However, the major reason was more political. Technically, uploads do not have the right to vote since their life has ended. Freeyond turned into a sinister company by putting countless clinics in swing states that would allow the desperate and poor to upload for free into a new life and away from the voting booths. If they do succeed, it would mean that several key votes would keep certain political juggernauts in power.

In the season finale, we saw Nathan going ahead and downloading himself into his body, despite the high risk of death just so that he could help Nora (Andy Allo, of Pitch Perfect 3) stop Freeyond before it’s too late. We see the plan in action and finally see Nora and Nathan get together in real life as they hop on board the train along with the LUDDS. But the showrunners couldn’t end the season on such a happy note, could they? In the last few moments, we saw Nathan starting to bleed from his nose, suggesting that his body was rejecting the downloaded soul. If that’s not enough, we see Ingrid in a desperate attempt to grow a new Nathan from scratch by stealing some of his hair strands from his hairbrush, and this time, not some weird AI digital baby.

With the who, what, and why of his murder ultimately revealed in season 2, we feel that the third season will revolve around them doing their best to stop Freeyond and expose them to the public. The new season will be more political and may not have much of Lake View. As far as Nathan is concerned, only time will tell what will happen to him.

Season 3 Potential Release Date

As of right now, there is no official announcement on whether Upload will be renewed or not. However, we are sure that the news will be in the show’s favor and will come around anytime now since the showrunners have already begun writing for the next season. As far as a potential release date goes, we can expect to see the third season drop on the streaming platform in the first half of 2023, assuming everything is on track and there are no delays.
