It’s only fitting that on a long weekend that spanned two holidays in two straight days, that a holiday-themed film would be the new record-holder. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Garry Marshall’s new film Valentine’s Day set a new President’s Day holiday weekend box office record with an estimated $66.9 million.
The race for second place over the four-day weekend was a close one, with Percy Jackson & the Olympians: Lightning Thief taking in $38.8 million with The Wolfman close behind at $36.5 million. Avatar finished in fourth place with $30 million, bumping its mammoth domestic gross to $667.6 million through nine weeks and Dear John rounded out the top 5 with an estimated $18.8 million.
