Fast and Furious lead Vin Diesel has revealed our first look at the return of Dominic Toretto in the upcoming sequel, Fast X. Taking to social media to show off the image, which finds Dom giving one of his classic squinting stares of seriousness and wearing a shirt with his name on it (just in case you thought it was simply a snap of Diesel going about his day), the actor also confirmed that the first trailer for Fast X will “launch next month…” Check out this latest look at Fast X below.

Fast X will find Dominic Toretto and his family once again going up against Charlize Theron’s criminal mastermind and cyberterrorist, Cipher. Only this time, she has a partner in crime in the form of Dante, played by Aquaman star Jason Momoa, with the duo no doubt causing all manner of mayhem for Dom and his beloved crew of criminals-turned-secret agents.

More specific details regarding Momoa’s role in proceedings remain a mystery at present, but the actor has revealed that Dante will be a somewhat different kind of villain from what audiences are expecting. Describing Dante as “sadistic and androgynous,” Momoa has been having the time of his life as part of the Fast and Furious family.
“I get to be the bad guy finally. I’ve been the good guy for a while. He’s very sadistic and androgynous and he’s a bit of a peacock… He’s got a lot of issues, this guy. He’s definitely got some daddy issues,” Momoa revealed before explaining why he was drawn to playing such a different character to his previous big and small screen outings. “It’s been hard because people always think I’m just this dude who plays [macho characters],” he explained. “But I want to be moved, I want something new. Things are changing, and even the villain roles I’m playing now are eccentric.”

So far, during its production, Fast X has hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Returning director Justin Lin suddenly walked away from the sequel back in April 2022 following a “major disagreement” with Diesel. After Diesel reportedly arrived at a meeting with notes, something Justin Lin was hugely unhappy with, drama ensued, with the meeting reportedly ending with “a slammed door.” Sources at the time said that “Justin finally had enough and said, ‘This movie is not worth my mental health.’”
Fast X is also now on track to be one of the most expensive movies of all time thanks to “numerous budget-busting elements,” including “increased salaries for series star Vin Diesel and the rest of the franchise’s ensemble cast, general increases in production costs caused by global inflation and charges for pandemic testing requirements mandated by COVID-19 safety protocols.”
That ensemble cast includes the likes of Vin Diesel, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Jason Momoa, John Cena, Brie Larson, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Scott Eastwood, Michael Rooker, Daniela Melchior, Alan Ritchson, Cardi B, Helen Mirren, Rita Moreno, and Charlize Theron. No wonder Fast X has cost so much.
Directed by Louis Leterrier, Fast X is scheduled to be released in the United States on May 19, 2023, by Universal Pictures, with another Fast and Furious sequel, likely titled Fast XI, planned for release in February 2024.
