In a story from MTV, at the recent WonderCon in San Francisco director Vincenzo Natali (Splice) expressed interest in making a Swamp Thing movie based on Alan Moore’s version of the series.
Producer Joel Silver has expressed some interest in bringing the character back to the big screen, maybe even in 3-D. Presently, there’s no movement on it, though.
“There are two incarnations of Swamp Thing - both of them are quite wonderful,” said Natali. “The first one was by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, which was a more traditional sort of retake on classic, James Whale-style, Universal Studio horror films. Then Alan Moore reinvented the character in the early ’80s, and that’s actually the version that’s a little more interesting to me.”
None of the new versions went with Moore’s idea for the character.
In addition to this, Natali also wants to adapt the J.G. Ballard novel “High Rise” into a feature film.
“It would be - if done properly - extraordinary,” stated Natali.
“I have an adaptation of a J.G. Ballard novel called ‘High Rise’ that I desperately want to do,” he offered. “This is about a building that is so enormous that it basically functions like a vertically integrated society.”
