A new comedy series written and directed by comedian Amy Schumer is heading to Hulu. Actress Violet Young will star in Life & Beth when it debuts on the streaming service. Young will be playing the teen version of the main character Beth.
Life & Beth follows Beth (Schumer), whose life looks pretty much tremendous, or so she thinks anyway. To the people she grew up with, she was an impressive woman. Beth worked hard and made a good living as a wine distributor. Her love life was great as she was in a long-term relationship with an attractive, successful guy and lives in Manhattan. However, just as things seem to be getting better for Beth, a significant incident forces Beth to confront her past, and her life changes forever.
What Does Schumer Feel About the Casting?
The series will bounce between flashbacks in which we see Beth as a young teen, played by Young. In these flashbacks, Beth learns how she became who she is and who she wants to become. These moments will help her go on a journey to better herself as she looks for the true meaning behind it all. There will be laughter, tears and more as we see the different layers of this woman get peeled back to expose who she is on the inside. The new series will also star Michael Rapaport, who plays teenage Beth’s father. Michael Cera is also signed on to play a significant role in the series. Cera will play the role of John, a farmer and chef who is always honest and to the point.
“Violet is the real deal,” Schumer said, according to Deadline. “I can’t wait for people to see what she can do.” Violet Young is best known for her work as Picasso’s daughter, Maya, opposite Antonio Banderas in Nat Geo’s Genius Picasso. Young has also done sketches on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and on SNL with Andy Samberg. Young can sing too and has performed on Live at the Apollo as well as sang the National Anthem as a soloist at the 2019 US OPEN. Besides doing a little of everything, Violet is a competitive volleyball and tennis player. On the fun side Young says she is a skincare product junkie and has a master’s degree in thrift shopping. As of now, Hulu has not announced a released date for the series but, we do know that they were filming the show in New York in April 2021. It would be a safe guess that soon, we should see a trailer attached to a possible release date. Of course, once we hear anything related to this series, we will keep you posted with the latest.
