Virgin River is a romantic drama that first aired in 2019, telling the story of Melinda Monroe, or “Mel” (Alexandra Breckenridge), who decides that she needs a fresh start after losing her baby to stillbirth and then her husband in a car accident. She answers an ad for a nurse practitioner in a remote town in California. With a picturesque backdrop of pine forests, rivers, log cabins, and a small population of fun-loving characters, you would imagine it being the ideal place to settle and be away from the humdrum hustle and bustle of city life.
However, for Mel, it isn’t quite as simple as she expected it to be, and she soon realizes that she needs to heal herself before making Virgin River her home; after all, ’no matter where you go, there you are.’ It’s when she meets Jack (Martin Henderson), the owner of the local bar, that things start to heat up and get interesting, leaving viewers immersed in the emotion and drama and truly hooked and wanting more. Season four of Virgin River saw a lot of complicated circumstances, and although it answered some lingering questions, it did give us a bombshell ending, leaving us wondering what’s next for Mel, Jack and others as we head into season five. Let’s take a look at some questions we need answering from this Netflix drama.

Reel World Management
Despite being the residents’ good guy, trouble seems to follow John Middleton, or “Preacher,” wherever he goes, and when his relationship with Paige develops, he becomes embroiled in her secret life, realizing she’s on the run from her evil ex-husband Wes (Steve Bacic). It doesn’t take long for Wes to appear in his hunt for Paige and her son Christopher, but when Paige accidentally kills him, she goes on the run again, but leaves Christopher in Preachers care. However, Wes’ twin brother Vince shows up and kidnaps Christopher, leaving Preacher feeling stressed and guilty.
It’s not until he meets Julia (Lucia Walters), his Aikido instructor, that Preacher starts to let his guard down, and we see things develop between them and are lured into thinking Preacher will get his happy ever after. That is, until Paige reappears and finds out that Vince has her son; Preacher jumps to her defense and ends up in a violent confrontation with Vince. After knocking Vince out, viewers are left not only wondering if Vince is dead and if Preacher is going to be arrested, but who’s he going to choose — Paige or Julia? We’ll have to wait for season five to see how things will unfold for the gentle, lovable Preacher.
Will Doc’s Practice Survive in Virgin River?
Netflix
Season four saw Cameron (Mark Ghanime) arrive as an additional doctor at the practice. Tension between Cameron and Mel was evident from the beginning with some people thinking he may have feelings for Mel. However, he actually thought that Jack was not the right guy for Mel and decided to be honest with her which led to a confrontation and him resigning from the practice. Despite Mel’s attempts to apologize to him, the damage was done.
Realizing that she was likely to need beret due being a high-risk pregnancy, Mel decided to resign in the hope that Cameron will come back to the practice. In the meantime, Doc is left alone to run the business, but as he nears retirement and is needed at home to care for Hope, we are left wondering what is going to happen to the practice. Will Cameron come back or are we going to see a new doc in town?
Who Really is Melissa, and What’s Going On at the Lumberyard?
When Melissa (Barbara Pollard) turned up at the lumberyard announcing that Calvin is no longer in charge and that she’s now the boss, it undoubtedly caused some tension and rattled Brady’s (Ben Hollingsworth) cage. As the new baddy in town, Melissa quickly made it clear to Brady that if he doesn’t support her Fentanyl drug business through the lumberyard, those closest to him could be in danger.
To put a spanner in the works, Melissa happens to be the sister of Nick (Keith MacKechnie) who we saw sign a business deal with Jack. However, Nick seems to have no clue who his sister really is and what lengths she will go to in maintaining her illegal drug trade. Is she going to pose a threat to Jack and his new business venture in season five?
How Will Doc React to Denny’s Illness?
Denny (Kai Bradbury) turned up in Virgin River declaring to be the grandson of Doc (Tim Matheson), but viewers became suspicious of him after seeing him steal drugs from the practice and rifle through personal paperwork of Doc’s. Lizzie was immediately attracted to him but became confused and skeptical when he kept her at arm’s length.
However, in the finale, he confessed to Lizzie that the reason he didn’t want her getting close is because he’s terminally ill. Denny has been diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease, with a life expectancy of anywhere from 10 to 30 years. The drugs he’s being stealing were for the pain, and he wants to use his money to pay off Doc’s mortgage, so does he think the end is near and are we going to see a tragic loss in season five?
Who Is the Father of Charmaine’s Twins?
The biggest bombshell reveal at the end of season four was when Charmaine (Lauren Hemmersley) announced that Jack is not the father of the twins. After continuously holding it over Jack’s head and complicating Mel and Jack’s relationship the whole time, does Charmaine seriously think Jack will just let this go? We know how Jack holds on to things and doesn’t easily give up, so will the pent-up anger and resentment he’s likely to have toward Charmaine put his recent progress in therapy and his sobriety to the test?
Although production for season five has ended, we don’t yet have a release date but expect the original Netflix series to drop in the summer of 2023.
