In the MCU films and shows Thor, Thor: The Dark World, WandaVision, and Thor: Love and Thunder, Kat Dennings portrays Dr. Darcy Lewis. An original MCU character, Darcy studied political science at Culver University and worked as Jane Foster’s (Natalie Portman) assistant and Erik Selvig’s (Stellan Skarsgård) intern. After Thor landed on Earth, Darcy worked with the scientists and became somewhat associated with the Avengers through learning about Asgard. Darcy interacted with a few of the other heroes, but most notable is Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), whom she met at Westview after being hired by S.W.O.R.D. for her work in astrophysics.

In WandaVision, S.W.O.R.D. gets concerned when a Westview resident who was enrolled in the Witness Protection Program vanishes. Upon looking into the matter, they soon discover that an illusion produced by Wanda has swallowed the whole town and its residents after S.W.O.R.D. Capitan Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) visits the town and a dome of power comes to life. Wanda kicks Monica out, but not before she develops odd new superpowers. Darcy comes to the conclusion that the illusion’s energy is affecting Monica’s DNA.

The situation then becomes much more serious. Darcy is sucked into Wanda’s enchantment, known as the Hex Barrier, along with several other people. S.W.O.R.D. takes severe measures in order to figure out why Wanda is doing all of this and how to stop her. Vision’s (Paul Bettany) death plays a huge part in Wanda’s choices within WandaVision, calling into question whether Wanda and Vision will ever get a happy ending. In the end, there is still one major issue that remains unanswered: Does Darcy, like Monica, now possess powers as a result of what transpired in WandaVision?

The extent of Wanda’s abilities is unclear, but we do know she is an extremely strong entity. After going through the hex twice, Monica started to see genetic changes. Both a brain scan and a blood test indicate that Monica gained energy-based power enhancements. People that cross over the barrier could be able to gain some kind of powers thanks to the Scarlet Witch’s sorcery.

Wanda’s powers may be able to activate those who have the genetic anomaly necessary to become mutants, as evidenced by the genetic effects Wanda’s powers appear to have on Monica. Using the connection between Wanda’s powers and others’ gaining abilities would make it possible for the MCU to connect with the X-Men franchise more directly and explore the origins of mutants in more detail. This notion is supported by the possibility that those who were transported into the Hex or imprisoned in Westview also gained mutant traits or powers. In July 2022, The Direct even reported rumors of how the future reboot of the X-Men could tie in with the MCU.

Darcy Could Gain Powers After Westview

Due to her exposure to the hex barrier, Darcy might now possess superhuman abilities. Darcy could develop abilities that are unconnected to her personality or related to her intelligence, cosmic energy, or both. Since Darcy was a member of the team that discovered Thor, she is familiar with superheroes and may find possessing superpowers advantageous. A genetic requirement that Darcy does not possess would prevent her from acquiring abilities.

There are several potential uses for a Darcy with abilities in the MCU. Billy and Tommy, Wanda’s twins, are implied to be future Young Avengers, and Darcy could play a supporting role. In Thor: Love and Thunder, Darcy is seen briefly helping her friend Jane as she is receiving medical attention, leaving Jane’s future uncertain, which has been detailed by Screen Rant. Darcy doesn’t appear to have gained abilities at all, but because she only entered the Hex once, it’s likely that the talents she could get are taking some time to completely activate. She could also be hiding any powers in order to be supportive of her friend.

Regardless of whether Darcy acquires magical abilities, her essential qualities — her personality and intellect — should prevail. Fans will have to wait for the time being to see whether Marvel has any interesting plans for Darcy Lewis.
