Season 5 picks up a few years after we last saw Hank Moody (David Duchovny), who’s now living in New York and has moved on. Hank is looking for a way out of town after the unceremonious dumping of latest girlfriend, Carrie (Natalie Zea), so he’s pleasantly surprised by a call from Charlie (Evan Handler) with a job offer back on the left coast. Hank hops a red eye where he has the good fortune of sitting next to Kali (Meagan Good).

Back in L.A., Hank and Charlie drop in on the now-married Marcy (Pamela Adlon) and Stu Beggs (Stephen Tobolowsky). Stu rushes Hank off to a meeting with the star of his latest film, rapper-turned-actor Samurai Apocalypse (RZA). Then it’s off to dinner with a now-married Karen (Natascha McElhone), her husband, Becca (Madeleine Martin) and her new boyfriend Tyler (Scott Michael Foster), a young Hank - in the worst sense of the word.
