Fans will be able to enjoy the high-flying action at home with the digital release of Top Gun: Maverick on Aug. 23, 2022. After the film has raked in vast amounts of cash at the worldwide box office, those waiting to catch the film at home can finally pick it up digitally on Tuesday. A physical release on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD will follow on Nov. 1.

For those who didn’t catch the film in theaters, there may be a lot of anticipation in finally checking out the movie, even if it’s at home. It had garnered great acclaim throughout its impressive theatrical run, continuing to fly high at the box office even with this digital release. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently attributed the film’s success to introducing a story that’s “real” amid all of the comic book tentpoles coming out.

“Sometimes you want to see something that’s real, and that’s what Top Gun gave us,” Bruckheimer said, per EW. “These aviators are out there protecting our country right now, flying around the world, and you’re taking a ride with them. You’re seeing what they do, you’re seeing what their life is like, and the trials and tribulations that they have to go through. You’re actually experiencing it with our actors.”

Joseph Kosinski directed Top Gun: Maverick using a screenplay by Ehren Kruger, Eric Warren Singer, and Christopher McQuarrie with a story by Peter Craig and Justin Marks. Along with Tom Cruise, the sequel brought back Val Kilmer for a special Top Gun reunion that stands out as one of the movie’s finest moments. Also starring in the film are Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, and Ed Harris.

Top Gun: Maverick can still be found screening in movie theaters, recently surpassing Avengers: Infinity War to become the sixth highest-grossing movie released in U.S. theaters. The film will be available for purchase digitally on Aug. 23 followed by a release on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on Nov. 1. There isn’t any word at this time as to when the film may be added to Paramount+ or any other streaming service.
