Wednesday fans are still rejoicing at the official announcement of a second season being green-lit by Netflix after being a guaranteed thing for over a month. In the meantime, Jenna Ortega’s character has added another accolade to the staggering amount of plaudits that have been bestowed on the Tim Burton series. This time around, it is the character of Wednesday herself that has taken the title of Top TV Character of 2022 in a survey by TV Time, seeing off competition from the likes of Stranger Things’ Eleven, and Marvel’s Moon Knight.

Why Is Wednesday So Popular?
Netflix
As a much-loved character, Tim Burton’s Wednesday could have been a complete disaster if public opinion had gone in a different direction. While that seems impossible to imagine now, it should be remembered that from the moment the series was announced to the day it hit Netflix, the phrase of choice among many was, “It’s not Christina Ricci so I don’t care about it.”
While Ricci did appear in the first season as one of Nevermore Academy’s teachers, the focus was very firmly on Ortega’s new iteration of Wednesday. While it is impossible to pin down exactly why the series became the record-breaking phenomenon it is, a combination of Ortega’s almost flawlessly dour performance, a quirky story, a handful of throwbacks to previous Addams Family movies and a viral dance scene to boot all helped to propel the show to become one of Netflix’s biggest ever.
With the Stranger Things heading into its final season, The Witcher currently on uncertain ground following the controversy around Henry Cavill’s exit and Netflix subscribers becoming displeased with the amount of single-season cancelations, Wednesday is a beacon of light for the streamer. For the show’s fans, this can only be good news and the success of the first season, combined with the renewal, could mean that other pitched spin-offs from the series could now happen. Who wouldn’t want to delve deeper into this Addams Family world?
Obviously it will be a little while before we see the second season of Wednesday hit Netflix, but that means there is plenty of time for speculation on exactly what will befall the young Addams’ daughter in her next adventure. In the meantime, there is nothing better to do than revisit the first season, which is streaming now on Netflix.
