Michael Giacchino is bringing something original to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Werewolf By Night. The Disney+ Halloween special is heavily inspired by some classic horror films that came before it, including Creature From the Black Lagoon and The Wolf Man. The official synopsis for the project reads: “Follows a lycanthrope superhero who fights evil using the abilities given to him by a curse brought on by his bloodline.”
Werewolf By Night will be released almost entirely in black and white; however, that’s not the only thing that distinguishes itself from other MCU projects. According to Giacchino, the Disney+ special will include a lot more gore than what most Marvel fans are used to. During an interview with IGN, the director spoke about the heavier use of blood and gore and its service in the project.

Of course, audiences shouldn’t expect a bloodbath like a hard R-rated movie. However, Werewolf By Night will likely present a more horrific take on its characters than other MCU projects. Giacchino admits there was some hesitancy around the decisions being made, but the director feels they all benefit the Halloween special.
Fans are prepared to be spooked with Gael García Bernal, Laura Donnelly, Harriet Sansom Harris, Eugenie Bondurant, and Leonardo Lam leading Giacchino’s Disney+ special. Werewolf By Night is set to release this week via the streaming giant on October 7.
