In the last year, Disney+ has been releasing Marvel shows every few months, but many don’t realize that before that, Marvel had multiple Netflix shows involving their heroes. The Marvel show Daredevil was one of the most beloved of the Netflix bunch, and explains why he is the first to appear in the MCU. Daredevil, played by British actor Charlie Cox, is one of the most well-known and most beloved Marvel characters to not be included in the MCU at that time. Considering that the Marvel series on Netflix started before Disney released Disney+, many fans were unsure if their favorite characters would ever appear in the MCU.
Now that Charlie Cox’s Daredevil has appeared in the MCU, will we continue to see him in future MCU projects? The MCU and Kevin Feige are very secretive about upcoming projects and specifically the involvement of new characters. While we can never be 100% sure, it is speculated that Daredevil and the original cast of the show may appear in a Disney+ Marvel show that is currently in development. If this is the case, then all Marvel fans should understand who Daredevil is and why he is changing the landscape of the MCU.

Who is Daredevil?
Considering his possible upcoming roles, many Marvel fans need an introduction or refresher on who Daredevil is. Often referred to as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen by other characters, Daredevil is one of New York’s many vigilantes. Daredevil is actually “very good” lawyer, Matt Murdock. Murdock has a law firm with his best friend Foggy Nelson and their accidental secretary Karen Page. The trio work together to help very specific clients who seem to fill a gray area within the justice system. Murdock is also blind, having been blinded as a child when he saved a person from being hit by a truck, but the accident caused a chemical spill, and the radioactive material heightens his other senses.
Murdock was raised by his boxer father, and while Murdock did not get his fighting skills from him, he is very skilled in hand-to-hand combat. Murdock specifically fights the villainous underground elite in NYC, whether that is Kingpin (played by Vincent D’Onofrio) or The Punisher (played by Jon Bernthal), or even Bullseye (played by Wilson Bethel). Daredevil is able to subvert expectations of the blind community and show a new side to the disability. Daredevil’s story is not over yet, and many fans hope to see more of the character.
Why Did Daredevil Appear in No Way Home?
Netflix, Marvel
Daredevil’s story was a bit unfinished in the show, and bringing him into the MCU requires some additional information. Daredevil was canceled in 2018 and fans haven’t seen the character in four years. At the end of season three of Daredevil, Matt Murdock was presumed to be dead, but considering fans just saw him in No Way Home, Murdock is obviously still alive. So, what happened to Matt Murdock in the interim? This could be revealed in his next appearance or in a possible Daredevil season four on Disney+. Murdock’s appearance in No Way Home premiered the same week as Kingpin’s appearance in Hawkeye. Kingpin appeared in the first and third seasons of Daredevil and was a vital villain to the show, so many fans assume that the two are appearing in the MCU to usher in the entire cast of Daredevil for the upcoming Hawkeye spinoff, Echo. Now that fans old and new have been introduced (or reintroduced) to these characters, and nothing in the MCU is ever accidental, fans expect to see these characters again in the near future.
What Does Daredevil’s Appearance Mean for Other Netflix Marvel Heroes?
The Marvel heroes in the pre-Disney era have been left in the dust, for the most part. This applies mostly to heroes who had Marvel shows on Netflix, like Daredevil, the Punisher, Jessica Jones, and even those from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which originally aired on ABC. These heroes have long been discounted as not canon in the MCU, and most thought they’d never see these characters in the Cinematic Universe. Daredevil has shifted that narrative completely. With Daredevil’s surprise appearance in No Way Home, he has opened a door for every Netflix and ABC Marvel hero to fly right through. It is now very possible that these characters can and will appear in future MCU projects. Considering Charlie Cox appeared as Daredevil (as he did in the Netflix shows), this confirms that the Netflix shows are becoming canon and allows for the Netflix actors to reprise their beloved roles. Daredevil’s appearance in No Way Home may be what opens the floodgates for new theories involving these characters and their possible inclusion in future MCU projects.
