White Men Can’t Jump, the upcoming remake of the 1992 classic, was announced a while ago but hasn’t had a release date until now. The director, Calmatic, who is primarily known for his work on commercials and music videos, confirmed with Collider that the movie will be released in 2023 and that only the finishing touches need to be made:
The film doesn’t have a trailer yet, but we know that Sinqua Walls and Jack Harlow have been cast in the lead roles. Harlow is primarily known for his rap career but has appeared in F9: The Fast Saga and lent his voice to the animated film Scoob! Walls, on the other hand, has more experience in acting, having appeared in Teen Wolf, Power, The Breaks, American Soul, and Nanny, along with dozens of other films and TV series.
“We locked the edit maybe a couple days ago. I feel like we gotta finish the sound mixing, throw some songs in there, get it color correct, and take it through the final stages of post. And then, I’m sure you guys will see something really soon. It’s definitely coming out this year.”

White Men Can’t Jump Remake Will Have an Entirely New Story
20th Century Fox
The remake isn’t simply a modern retelling of the now three decades old comedy but will feature an entirely new story. Calmatic explains it’ll still have the same “elements” but will have a different tempo and rhythm than the original:
The original film had Woody Harrelson team up with Wesley Snipes to hustle neighborhood basketball players who assumed Harrelson’s character couldn’t play well since he is white, as the title suggests. He’s secretly a former pro basketball player, though, and the duo proceeds to crush their opposition and make a fortune by doing so. It’s a different kind of sports movie as it’s about relatively casual street play instead of professional teams and stands full of roaring fans. It became an instant classic when it came out, with particular praise for the chemistry between the two lead actors. Screenwriter Kenya Barris has expressed interest in having Snipes and Harrelson return for cameos, although Harrelson previously stated that he wasn’t interested but hopes the film does well.
“We’re taking some elements, like a white guy and a black guy playing basketball, but we’re flippin’ it. We’ve got a whole new story, whole new approach, whole new tempo, whole new rhythm, but it’s gonna be something that everyone can enjoy. I can’t wait for the world to see that one. I think that’s gonna be great, as well.”
White Men Can’t Jump is expected to debut sometime in 2023, directed by Calmatic. Kenya Barris and Doug Hall wrote the screenplay, and the cast includes Sinqua Walls, Jack Harlow, Lance Reddick, and Teyana Taylor.
