The shocking, sudden death of Jenni Rivera in 2012 is the focus of a new docuseries from Peacock. Set to start streaming in December, the three-part series, dubbed Who Killed Jenni Rivera?, serves as an exploration of the horrific plane crash that took the life of the Latin superstar through intimate footage and interviews, exploring potential causes and looking at the tragedy’s remaining mysteries. All three episodes will drop on Dec. 6, but to get a sneak peek, you can watch the trailer below.

The trailer starts with footage of Jenni Rivera getting introduced for a live performance that ominously fades into coverage of the plane crash that left her dead at the age of 43. Some of the accident’s mysteries are also teased, with one person questioning how Rivera’s ID could be found when the plane’s black box could not, leading to theories of a possible cover-up. Others wonder if the crash was truly an accident or if there’s more to the story, even suggesting that the cartel may have been involved. Rivera’s own voice recordings are also featured in the trailer with the singer, perhaps offering more clues in the bizarre mystery.

The official synopsis for Who Killed Jenni Rivera? reads:

Jenni Rivera’s Story Will Be Told at Peacock

Known for the music she made within the Regional Mexican genre, Jenni Rivera became one of the highest-earning regional Mexican artists of all time with more than 20 million records sold. In addition to her music, Rivera was also an activist and served as the spokesperson in the U.S. for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Rivera was also featured in reality television and had just gotten into acting prior to her passing, posthumously appearing in the 2013 film Filly Brown.

On Dec. 9, 2012, Rivera boarded an aircraft following a show in Monterrey, Mexico. After contact with the plane was lost, authorities located the wreckage and discovered that all five passengers had died along with two crewmembers. An official investigation into the crash was unable to determine a specific cause as the plane had reportedly disintegrated on impact due to the speed at which it hit the ground. The flight recorders were also said to be lost, further preventing the investigators from trying to find out answers. It’s believed that a “loss of control” caused the crash.

Who Killed Jenni Rivera? starts streaming on Peacock and at PeacockTV.com on Dec. 6, 2022.
