Agatha was introduced to fans in the wildly successful WandaVision. While initially many viewers had no idea who she could be, the intrigue kept them invested. Agatha was like a cello to Wanda’s violin, winning over current fans of the cinematic universe and drawing in new.
One of the most significant climatic points in the series involves a showdown between Wanda and Agatha in an episode titled “Previously On.” Wanda ceremoniously engages in an epic magic duel with Agatha in this episode and fans learn that Wanda Maximoff is indeed the Scarlett Witch.
Agatha: Coven of Chaos will resume from the point at which Wanda trapped the “Goddess of Witchcraft,” as she is sometimes referred to. However, Agatha is not merely trapped in West View. She is trapped in the form of Wanda’s noisy neighbor.

Indeed, in Agatha: Coven of Chaos, viewers will travel back to the lovely suburbia to see how Agatha has fared and how she breaks the hold. Given the title, the drama which unfolds will likely be full of messy goodness because chaos has never been tidy. However, with the acclaim of its predecessor, the pressure is on. But, putting any hesitation aside, here is why Agatha: Coven of Chaos could be Marvel’s most popular series.
Agatha: Coven of Chaos Rides on The Success of WandaVision
Agatha played a significant role in the MCU’s first major release on Disney+. The series was a resounding success, creating intrigue for all the features to follow. As Decider notes, in comparison, other big shows released that year, Bridgerton, Cobra Kai, Firefly Lane, and The Bachelor, couldn’t even come close to matching Wanda’s search traffic.

WandaVision was an out-of-the-box production bringing something fresh to Marvel fans. And, in terms of applying significant box office effects to the small screen, they nailed it and won over a new base of watchers. According to Forbes, “Marvel’s first ’explicitly in-universe’ TV show (depending on how you count Agents of SHIELD) earned ratings equivalent to (at $9.37 per ticket) a $52.8 million ‘opening weekend.’”
If relativity plays a part, the proximity of the two features and the relative success of WandaVision has the likelihood of spilling over to Agatha’s Coven of Chaos. Interestingly, any success the upcoming series might obtain is owed to WandaVision. Reportedly Agatha: Coven of Chaos wasn’t part of the original MCU plans until WandaVision’s success.
Audiences Love Novelty
Marvel Studios
People love novel things, and a story that centers on Agatha is a novel pursuit. Very little content has been produced that features Agatha in film and television. In fact, the introduction of Agatha in WandaVision was shocking to many. Quite a few viewers were unfamiliar with who she was, and others who had heard mentions of her but not done much exploration into the depth of her roots in Marvel lore were equally shocked.
Agatha’s introduction in WandaVision produced a fair amount of enticement. According to Direct, the episode “Previously On” was the third most-watched episode. Not to mention, WandaVision ended in a manner that would serve as a proper segue into Agatha: Coven of Chaos. If the upcoming show presents a strong plot with an interesting arc, it could be one of the most successful Marvel series to air on the Disney+ platform.
Agatha’s Ties to Other Marvel Characters
Marvel Comics
While not everyone is interested in lore, die-hard MCU fans certainly are. Agatha has solid ties to some titular characters in the Marvel universe. One thing that Marvel fans enjoy is good Easter eggs with the potential to expand into larger stories. According to ScreenRant, there are a few exciting possibilities, including Brother Voodoo, Satana & Hellstrom, Topaz, Enchantress, Doctor Druid, Nicholas Scratch, Calypso Ezili (The Witch), Selene Gallio, and Wiccan (Billy Kaplan). So, if done right and the correct characters are introduced in conjunction with the series, it is bound for success.
The Actress Behind Agatha Is Perfect
Disney Platform Distribution
Finally, but most important, is the personality behind the persona of Agatha Kathryn Hahn. Agatha was played to perfection, and there is more than one reason she was perfect for the part. Interestingly, due to the limited visual content featuring Agatha on a film reel, there was no true benchmark of what an iconic Agatha would look like.
The capacity to mold the character fell to Hahn, and she set the bar without being weighed down by comparison. By all practical means, she solidified herself as Agatha. The fans loved her in the role, and it earned her a 2021 Emmy nomination.
If she continues to deliver a solid performance, the series will inevitably succeed. Furthermore, If Hahn can elevate the character to the next level, she could be instrumental in making Coven of Chaos one of the best to be offered on the Disney+ Platform.
Agatha: Coven of Chaos indeed has the potential to be another hit for the MCU and the best offering to be presented on the small screen. However, there will be loads of content to wade through before the series is expected to debut, including Secret Invasion, Echo, Iron Heart, and Loki’s second season. So, the verdict will be out for quite some time. If schedules aren’t altered too much, by winter 2023 we will know if all expectations will be fulfilled.
