Live Die Repeat and Repeat Was All but Confirmed, Until It Wasn’t
Warner Bros. Pictures
We got the first update in December 2015 when Christopher McQuarrie, during an interview with Collider, stated that Cruise had an idea for a sequel, and the concept was locked and loaded. Later, in April 2016, it was revealed that director and producer Douglas Eric Liman (Doug Liman) had already signed on to direct the sequel, and screenwriters Anna Waterhouse and Joe Shrapnel were to write the script.
In October 2016, Liman revealed that the sequel would, in fact, be a prequel, and in 2017, disclosed the film title, Live Die Repeat and Repeat and that Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise would reprise their roles. In March 2018, screenwriter Jez Butterworth joined the crew for a script rewrite, and so did American author, director, producer, actor, and screenwriter Matthew Robinson, in March 2019, to rewrite the screenplay. In October of the same year, Liman confirmed the script was complete.
The next update was in January 2020, when Liman revealed that the project was still in the planning stages despite a few challenges. Another update was released in January 2021, where Liman stated that a sequel would happen eventually and just needed Blunt and Cruise to pull the trigger.

According to statements from lead actress Emily Blunt, the sequel to the film Edge of Tomorrow was cast in doubt due to the high budget required. The first film had a budget of $178 million and earned $370.5 million worldwide, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it would have been too expensive for Warner Bros to invest a similar amount in a sequel. Additionally, scheduling conflicts with lead actors Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, and director Doug Liman have also been an obstacle in getting the project off the ground. Director Doug Liman announced in January 2021 that the script for a sequel was ready, and it was just a matter of coordinating schedules with Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. However, it may prove to be a difficult task.

Cruise, since Edge of Tomorrow, has been working on several movies, including Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015), Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (2016), The Mummy (2017), American Made (2017), Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018) and Top Gun: Maverick (2022). He is also working on Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (2023) and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two (2024).
Blunt, on the other hand, has also been extremely busy since Edge of Tomorrow, working on the 2015 movie Sicario, 2016 films The Huntsman: Winter’s War and The Girl on the Train, 2017 movies Animal Crackers and My Little Pony: The Movie, 2018 films A Quiet Place, Sherlock Gnomes and Mary Poppins Returns, 2020 movies Wild Mountain Thyme and A Quiet Place Part II, 2021 movie Jungle Cruise and the 2022 TV series The English. She is also currently working on Oppenheimer (2023), Pain Hustlers (2023), and The Fall Guy (2024).
It seems that Live Die Repeat and Repeat is not high priority for them.

Has Warner Bros Quietly Been Making Edge of Tomorrow TV Series?
In 2021, Warner Bros. made a surprising decision to release its entire theatrical lineup on the streaming service HBO Max. This move led to a lawsuit from Village Roadshow, a frequent collaborator of Warner Bros., for breach of contract regarding releasing The Matrix Resurrections on HBO Max. Court documents from the lawsuit, made public in 2022, indicated that Edge of Tomorrow, a film that Village Roadshow was involved in developing, was also planned to be released on HBO Max. It is unclear at this time what stage of development the Edge of Tomorrow series is in or if it will feature the original film’s cast members.
The sequel’s status is uncertain. We know that Cruise and Liman are currently working on a space-based film with a budget of $200 million and collaborating with NASA and SpaceX, Elon Musk’s company, on the project. Additional information about the story of the space-based film is also being kept confidential. Only time will reveal if Edge of Tomorrow will receive a sequel or the planned HBO Max series will come to fruition.
