The Night at the Museum trilogy is arguably one of the most underappreciated movie franchises. These movies have an incredibly fun and original premise that is fun for families and viewers of all ages. Night at the Museum features a myriad of stars throughout the three movies, including Amy Adams, Robin Williams, Ben Stiller, and more. This wildly talented cast brings a charming and adventurous story to life on screen in three beloved movies that deserve much more love and recognition.
While most of the original cast probably wouldn’t return for another Night at the Museum project, that doesn’t mean there couldn’t be one. It would be easy to create a new series based off of the franchise in the same vein as the upcoming National Treasure series. A series for Night at The Museum could center around Nicky, the son of Ben Stiller’s character Larry, as a night guardsman in the museum; or it could center around a completely new and original character entirely. There are plenty of possibilities for this series as an idea, and here’s why creating this show would be such a fun idea.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
Educational
The series would be a fun source of entertainment while also providing a lot of educational tidbits. Like many shows, it would appear like an adventure on the surface while having a deeper purpose and theme underneath. The original films showcased a ton of historical figures throughout different periods of history all over the world, everyone from Sacagawea to Attila the Hun to Al Capone and more. The characters that come to life in the museum talk about themselves and the lives they lived, subtly teaching the audience about them and their history. Throughout the movies, Larry does research to better understand the figures in the museum as well as to figure out how to solve whatever crisis they’re facing. Every movie is centered around history and culture and educates the audience in a way that’s enticing and entertaining, and a show done in the same fashion could help widen the audience and the reach of the information being shared.
Bring In Famous Names
20th Century Studios
The Night at the Museum franchise is chock-full of incredible talent and big names in cinema. Creating a new series based on the films would be an opportunity to bring in more famous actors for an incredibly fun project. While it would definitely be fun to see some of the original cast members like Dick Van Dyke or Owen Wilson make a cameo, it would be great to get an entirely new cast for the show. It could have a blend of actors known across generations, having roles for more seasoned and classic actors as well as ones that have risen into recent fame, which would make the series accessible and entertaining for all ages– just like the movies. Having such recognizable faces playing historical characters also makes audiences more likely to remember them and actually learn a bit of the history that comes with them (because, let’s be honest, none of us knew about Ahkmenrah until Rami Malek played him, right?).
Fun Effects for a Fun Adventure
Another thing that this franchise is known for is its incredible special and visual effects. The trilogy has a lot of characters that are partial if not totally CGI, especially in the second film, and it requires a lot of hard work to make it all come to life. But these characters are part of what makes Night at the Museum so exciting and wonderful. The first film wouldn’t be complete without the tiny figures of Jed and Octavius or the scenes of playing fetch with Rexy. This new series would be an opportunity for more VFX artists to be part of a fun and fulfilling project that continues the legacy of the beloved movies. There could be more gift shop items coming to life, or more dinosaurs and paintings, or even sculptures and suits of armor; the possibilities are endless. A Night at the Museum tv series would bring even more fun adventures to life with equally wonderful and incredible VFX to go with it.
Opportunity for Diverse and Accurate Casting
Something that fans and viewers of the franchise always marvel over is the incredible diversity of the film, which comes from the fact that they actually cast each character accurately. The Asians were played by Asians, Egyptians played by Egyptians, and so on. While more movies and TV series are catching on and working to have diverse casts, Night at the Museum was always way ahead of the game. Having a TV series inspired by the film trilogy would be an opportunity for a large and diverse cast of actors from all over the world. It would allow for people of different ethnicities and cultures to represent and teach their own history and culture on screen. Audience members of various backgrounds would be able to see their history come to life and see it be taught and included in a wild adventure story that reaches viewers of all ages.
All in all, there are tons of potential for a Night at the Museum series. There’s no way to know whether it might actually happen or not, but with all the movies these days getting spinoffs or reboots, there’s definitely a chance for the franchise to make a comeback. Night at the Museum is a whimsical story for everyone that deserves to be appreciated, and it would be great for original fans as well as new ones to see some new content for it to be released.
